2025 Coronation Stakes Runners
Last week, Zarigana dominated this betting heat, with some firms quoting Francis Graffard's raider as the even-money favourite. However, two classy fillies have been supplemented into the race since and the French 1000 Guineas winner now sits second in the market.
Despite winning the Pretty Polly Stakes by a considerable distance, Owen Burrows opted not to run Falakeyah in either the British or French Oaks, and she's been backed to the head of the betting since being supplemented. Jane Chapple-Hyam has also added Kon Tiki to the field, after she extended her winning run with an impressive victory in the Michael Seely.
Ryan Moore has opted to ride January, despite her eighth-place finish in the Irish 1000 Guineas on her reappearance. Wayne Lordan rides French 1000 Guineas fourth Exactly, who has slipped down the market since jockey bookings were confirmed.
Flight and Simmering placed in the British 1000 Guineas, but were disappointing in the Irish equivalent. Cercene and Duty First were third and fourth behind Lake Victoria in that Classic, and both take their chances here. Ralph Beckett, meanwhile, is represented by British 1000 Guineas fifth Chantilly Lace, and Amo Racing's Cathedral, who placed fourth on her reappearance at Lingfield.
2025 Coronation Stakes Tips
I was keen to side against Zarigana when I looked at this race two weeks ago. I picked out Exactly as my ante-post bet, but the fact that Ryan Moore has chosen to ride January spells an end for her chances.
Falakeyah looked much more like a miler than a middle-distance filly when winning at Newmarket. Owen Burrows' contender has bundles of speed and plenty of class to boot. She's a worthy favourite, but there's a chance that this strong traveller could get boxed in against the rail from stall two, unless Jim Crowley decides to make the running. In any case, she's a bit too short for me in the market.
The value here lies with FLIGHT (16/1), who ran a screamer on her reappearance at Newmarket. Ollie Sangster's filly travelled beautifully in the small group on the stand's side of the Rowley Mile. Oisin Murphy let the leader track over to the main group to find some company, but couldn't match Desert Flower's burst of speed in the closing stages, and was forced to settle for second.
Flight was a little keen at the Curragh, but looked to be coming to challenge at the three pole. Oisin Murphy spied a gap on the inside, but that door shut fairly quickly and Flight got sandwiched between Cercene and Duty First, which completely halted her progress.
Ollie Sangster's filly won her maiden around a turning track at Sandown and seemed to relish fast ground in the 1000 Guineas. Murphy will need to produce a canny ride from out in stall 11, but I'm hopeful that he can slot in and find some cover for this enthusiastic filly, before mounting a strong challenge.
