Royal Ascot 2024 gets off to a flying start on Tuesday. Three fantastic Group One races headline the opening day of racing, which also features the Group Two Coventry Stakes and a couple of lucrative handicaps.

Here are my best betting tips on day one of Royal Ascot...

3:05pm Ascot - Coventry Stakes Tips

Thie first juvenile race of the week has attracted 23 runners. Cowardofthecounty looked good when beating Norfolk Stakes favourite, Whistlejacket on debut. Aidan O'Brien was confident that Camille Pissarro would improve for his narrow defeat in the Marble Hill Stakes, with Andesite and Yah Mo Be There clashing again after a tight finish at York.

There are a couple of outsiders that I like at each-way prices, starting with STAR ANTHEM (25/1) for Clive Cox, who landed the Coventry with 150/1 shot Nando Parrado in 2020. Cox's youngster was only beaten a neck by Hawaiian on debut at Newbury in April, and built on that showing with an impressive four-length triumph at Bath next time out.

Star Anthem has only run over five furlongs thus far, but he's bred to be much more effective over six and shouldn't have any problems getting the trip. Richard Kingscote loves riding precocious sprinters, and he should be hopeful of a big run.

RASHABAR (66/1) finished third behind Hawaiian and Star Anthem on debut, having found trouble at a crucial stage. Brian Meehan's juvenile was slowly away again at Chester next time out and did very well to finish second behind Teej A, who followed up in the Woodcote at Epsom. Like Cox, Meehan is no stranger to success during the Royal Meeting and he holds this son of Holy Roman Emperor in high regard.

5:05pm Ascot - Ascot Stakes Tips

I'm quite sweet on the each-way chances of NUSRET (25/1), who won a Grade Two and was Grade One-placed during his juvenile campaign over hurdles. Joseph O'Brien's star ended that season with a flat handicap victory off 89 at the Curragh, defeating one of today's rivals, Almuhit quite convincingly.

Nusret only ran three times during the last National Hunt season, finishing second to Risk Belle in a Grade Three at Fairyhouse on his reappearance, and was last seen plodding on for fifth behind Daddy Long Legs at Punchestown. This step up in trip should really suit O'Brien's five-year-old and Nusret looks well-handicapped off this flat rating of 91.

5:40pm Ascot - Wolferton Stakes Tips

Wathnan Racing have been splashing the cash in the build-up to this year's Royal meeting. One of their most recent purchases was TORITO (9/2), following an excellent reappearance run behind Liberty Lane at Newmarket.

John & Thady Gosden's star won well at the Epsom Derby Festival last season and was one of those inconvenienced by the wandering Oviedo when fourth in the Hampton Court Stakes 12 months ago. James Doyle's mount kept on well for third in the Suffolk Stakes as he made his return from a 317-day absence last month. If the Doyler can find a nice position from an inside draw in stall two, I fancy Torito will land this Listed prize.

6:15pm Ascot - Copper Horse Handicap Tips

Given Willie Mullins' record in this race and the lenient mark he's been handed by the handicapper, you've got to have some sort of punt on BELLOCCIO (4/1).

William Buick's mount reached and maintained a mark of 108 during his time with David Menuisier - a spell which included a Listed victory at Kempton and a couple of decent runs at Group Three level. On his Irish debut, Belloccio bolted up on his first start over hurdles and the British handicapper has dropped his mark down to 100 for his return to flat racing.

Despite my confidence in the market leader, I'm also going to back PARTY CENTRAL (16/1) for Willie's National Hunt sparring partner, Gordon Elliott. A Listed winner over hurdles, Party Central beat 103-rated flat performer Jesse Evans on her second outing on the level last July and placed third in a Listed race at Down Royal on her most recent start. This shorter trip should suit the speedy Party Central and she too looks well-treated off this rating of 96.
