2024 St James's Palace Stakes Tips - Appleby's star can build on Newmarket success
The 2023 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot will spotlight top three-year-olds, including Classic winners competing in an eight-furlong Group One race. Notable Speech, the 2000 Guineas winner, is highly favored after an impressive performance. While challengers like Rosallion and Alyanaabi add to the competition, Notable Speech stands out as the likeliest victor, holding significant value at current odds. Aidan O'Brien's charge, Henry Longfellow, also poses a noteworthy threat.

2023 St James's Palace Stakes Tips - Notable Speech
I'm really struggling to get away from NOTABLE SPEECH (6/4) at the head of the market. His victory in the 2000 Guineas was outstanding, and made more impressive when you consider how weak he was in the betting leading up to that Classic.
Notable Speech was squeezed to the rear coming out of the gates, forcing William Buick to angle towards the inside rail early on. As City Of Troy gave way on his side of the track, Charlie Appleby's star powered into contention, displaying an electrifying turn of foot to put that race to bed.
Rosallion kept on well to finish second ahead of Haatem, and the two went on to boost that form by securing first and second-place finishes in the Irish 2000 Guineas. Notable Speech had race-fitness on his side when the two met at Newmarket. However, I'm not sure Rosallion really improved on his 2000 Guineas showing when winning at the Curragh and I don't see why he'll be able to turn the tables on the favourite, especially on fast ground around a track like Ascot.
All of Aidan O'Brien's three-year-olds have improved for their first outing of the season, so I expect Henry Longfellow to be more competitive. Metropolitan has to back up his shock victory in the French 2000 Guineas, and fellow raider Darlinghurst has never been tried at higher than Group Three level before.
Almaqam would surely want softer ground than what he'll get on Tuesday. Unquestionable has six lengths to find on Rosallion from their clash in Ireland. Alyanaabi was my selection in the 2000 Guineas and I'm confident he will improve on that fifth-place finish, but beating Notable Speech seems like a big ask.

Verdict
I still retain plenty of faith in Alyanaabi and wouldn't put anyone off an each-way punt at 16/1. Yet, Notable Speech is undoubtedly the most likely winner of the St James's Palace Stakes and there's still some value in his current price of 6/4.
