2023 Royal Ascot Ante-Post Tips - Five horses to back at lengthy prices

Once the Epsom Derby has been and gone, attention turns to Royal Ascot. Eight excellent Group One races will be staged during this world-famous meeting, along with a whole host of other pattern races and a handful of lucrative handicaps.

Today, we've taken a look through the ante-post markets for Royal Ascot and picked our five horses to back at lengthy prices.

2023 Royal Ascot Ante-Post Tips


2023 Queen Anne Stakes Tips - Berkshire Shadow


A winner of the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot 2021, BERKSHIRE SHADOW (33/1) has returned to top form since being gelded last year. Andrew Balding's star claimed back-to-back victories on the all-weather, before running into the places in last month's Lockinge Stakes.

Oisin Murphy's mount was a little slowly away at Newbury, but responded to pressure well throughout the race and crossed the line just two-and-a-half lengths behind Modern Games. Given his recent form and an impressive record at this meeting, Berkshire Shadow is surely overpriced at 33/1 for the Queen Anne Stakes.

2023 Royal Hunt Cup Tips - Aerion Power


It's been over 20 years since Sir Michael Stoute won his only Royal Hunt Cup. He'll be represented by AERION POWER (33/1), who's slipped down to a lenient mark of just 95 over the past couple of seasons.

Stoute's five-year-old made just two appearances last season and didn't look happy on his reappearance on soft ground this season. Aerion Power ran well at Sandown last time out, where he was pitched wide through and stuck to his guns well to place third. Quicker ground will certainly suit this son of Kingman and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Stoute's charge run a competitive race.

2023 Ribblesdale Stakes Tips - Lumiere Rock


With plenty ahead of her in the betting likely to swerve Royal Ascot, this could be a good opportunity to back Joseph O'Brien's LUMIERE ROCK (16/1).

O'Brien's filly ran out an impressive winner of a Group Three on her final juvenile start and shaped like 12 furlongs would suit when second behind stablemate Caroline Street at Naas last time out. Very quick ground would be a slight worry for this daughter of Saxon Warrior, but Lumiere Rock clearly has plenty of ability and a good attitude to boot.

2023 Commonwealth Cup Tips - Marbaan


It wasn't so long ago that MARBAAN (50/1) was being touted as one of the next big things in British racing. Charlie Fellowes star beat Holloway Boy to win the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood and carried odds of 7/1 into the Group One National Stakes at the Curragh.

Marbaan has run well on both his starts this season, finishing fourth from a tricky track position in the Commonwealth Cup Trial here at Ascot in May, before losing out by a neck against his elders in the Cathedral Stakes at Salisbury. All three of Marbaan's best performances have come on quicker ground and he could be the forgotten horse in this Group One.

2023 Hardwicke Stakes Tips - Changingoftheguard


CHANGINGOFTHEGUARD (14/1) made a pleasing return to action in the Ormonde Stakes at Chester last month. On his first start after winning the King Edward VII Stakes here at Ascot last year, Aidan O'Brien's colt ran very well for much of the race, fading back to third as Hamish began to assert in the final two furlongs.

Ryan Moore's mount is entitled to come on for that run and this slight drop back in trip will certainly suit. Like the Ribblesdale, plenty of runners ahead of Changingoftheguard will likely come out of the Hardwicke and I'd be surprised if O'Brien's runner didn't go off at around half of his current odds.
