The early favourite for this year's Kentucky Derby is Michael McCarthy's unbeaten colt Journalism. Once raced as a juvenile, Journalism returned to action with a win in the San Felipe Stakes, before confirming his spot in the field at Churchill Downs with a cosy victory in the Santa Anita Derby.
The blue silks of Godolphin will be carried by Sovereignty, who won the Fountain Of Youth before a narrow defeat on his prep-run in the Florida Derby. Tappan Street got first run on Sovereignty and he'll likely represent Brad Cox in this historic Classic.
Forever Young came close to winning the Derby for Japan 12 months ago. Noriyuki Hori's unbeaten colt Luxor Café will be hoping to go two better than his countrymen, following a five-length victory in the Fukuryu Stakes.
Mark Casse's Sandman triumphed in another of the regional Derby, the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park. Rodriquez jumped into Classic contention when winning the Wood Memorial.
