Having dominated her juvenile season and securing major wins in both the Poule d'Essai Des Pouliches and the Prix de Diane, she most recently bounced back after her only career defeat. Along with defending champion Daryz, Francis Graffard will run Varandir in Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
Graffard's three-year-old has only been beaten once in five career starts, and that defeat came in the Grand Prix de Paris, where he finished narrowly behind Maltese Cross. Varandir went into that Group One on the back of an impressive victory in the Prix Hocquart, which followed a couple of comfortable novice victories.
Varandir bounced back from that first career defeat by landing the Prix Niel, which is considered to be the most important three-year-old trial for the Arc. Graffard is delighted to run both colts in Sunday's main event and has even claimed that, if Daryz doesn't fire on the day, Varandir could be on hand to pick up the pieces.
Varandir will be ridden by jockey Clement Lecoeuvre, and he'll wear the famous green and red silks of owner Aga Khan Studs. Graffard's three-year-old will be number 11 on your racecard and break from stall four.
