Bellflower Handicap Tips (Race 3)
Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Parents' Love
After a lean three-month period from November to January, the Tony Cruz stable was back in good touch, preparing seven winners and eight placegetters in February.
His six winners in March have come at a 15% strike rate and have produced a 51% ROI for punters.
Cruz prepares Parents' Love, who is well placed coming back in grade here on the fresh side and has bolted in with a tick-over trial on March 5.
The son of Deep Field carried a similar impost when saluting comfortably via his last try in this company back in October before going up in grade.
After a pair of disappointing efforts at Sha Tin in December and January, his last two Class 3 runs have been fair, and with a good record over this track-and-trip, he can make his own luck on speed under Angus Chung, who has a good rapport with the gelding.
Dahlia Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Reliable Dad
There has been merit to all four of his Hong Kong appearances, with the David Hall-trained galloper finding 1200m much too sharp on debut back in November.
He worked home well there before improving over both 1400m and 1600m at Sha Tin for his next two starts prior to a freshen-up.
Reliable Dad progressed again over 1800m on February 14 when recording a third-place finish, where there were some excuses in the home straight.
The four-year-old is from a strong family, being a close relation to the 2013 Australian Oaks winner, Royal Descent.
There is still upside as a lightly raced type, and while he may be looking for further again, any improvement on his latest effort brings him right into this at an each-way price.
Hydrangea Handicap Tips (Race 8)
Happy Valley Roughie - Race 8 No. 12 Argento Ocean
He was always a work in progress over his first few campaigns, with Argento Ocean furnishing with racing deeper into his second preparation.
The highlight was a breakthrough win over this track and trip on November 2.
He has been competitive in all five appearances at Happy Valley, including a return second on February 25 when giving weight to Rainbow Seven, a fitter rival who had excuses prior.
That form gets a guide with Rainbow Seven a short favourite earlier on the card, and Argento Ocean now rises in grade while dropping sharply in the weights.
This is not a strong Class 3, and while he needs to lift on exposed form, there is a clear platform to do so as a lightly raced galloper with upside, particularly given his last start rated well for the grade and meeting.
Snapdragon Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 9 No. 12 Win Beauty Viva
It is worth noting that Win Beauty Viva wore blinkers in his two Australian starts, producing a promising debut second before breaking through by two lengths.
That key gear change is reapplied here following an even but still competitive effort on February 25.
He has since had a tick-over trial with the blinkers on, which was sound despite being ridden cold after jumping well and being restrained to the rear.
Win Beauty Viva appears to be progressing since a big defeat on his Hong Kong debut and has improved with each run since.
In what looks a thin race outside Max Que, a deserving favourite, he appeals as a progressive four-year-old who can be ridden more positively and is worth an each-way play.
