Happy Valley Tips on April 8th
D’aguilar Handicap Tips (Race 2)
Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 2 No. 9 Precision Hope
Willing to give Precision Hope another look, especially with another long each-way price available for the Hayes-trained galloper.
We were with him at his last appearance on March 25, which was his first 1650m attempt, and just nothing went right in that effort.
He was back in a leader-dominated race and also lost ground at a key stage when checked, and under the circumstances, he finished off well, although he was never threatening.
The gelding delivered his best career run at start four prior to that with a fifth-of-14 finish at Sha Tin, a race that has produced two subsequent winners.
Precision Hope is still open to improvement being so lightly raced, and with even luck this time around, he could potentially figure in the second at Happy Valley.
D’aguilar Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 4 No. 7 Golden Brilliant
The ‘Magic Man’ Joao Morera makes his Hong Kong return via Wednesday night’s Happy Valley program, and he has a strong book of rides, with Golden Brilliant one of his leading chances.
The gelding showed sharp improvement at the back end of his last campaign when recording a pair of fourth-place finishes.
He took that improvement into his March 11 resumption when saluting over this track and trip.
There was more merit to that victory than the margin suggests, given he covered ground and sustained a wide run.
For staying in the same grade, he has done well to receive only a 2kg penalty, and with a tick-over trial completed on March 31 where he was not knocked around, there is no reason why he can’t go on with it here.
Sport Club Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup Tips (Race 5)
Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Monarch County
Another leading chance this evening for the Fownes and Morera combination is Monarch County.
The galloper is still lightly raced for a five-year-old, and both March trials leading into this return assignment suggest he is ready to run a good race fresh.
He was up in grade at the start of the season with competitive Class 3 efforts before dropping back to Class 4 via his January runs, where he finished runner-up first-up.
There were excuses in his latest when finishing eighth-of-14 after covering ground throughout, and his exposed form over the last 12 months suggests 1200m is his most suitable trip.
His last win came at this track, trip and grade in July, and from a favourable draw in a race that lacks depth, Monarch County is well placed despite the weight.
Glenealy Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Happy Valley Roughie - Race 7 No. 7 Romantic Gladiator
The Danny Shum stable has been a profitable one to follow at Happy Valley this season, with 23 winners recorded in the 2025/26 period so far.
Those results have come at a strike rate of better than 15% and an ROI of 108.5%.
Shum prepares Romantic Gladiator, a youngster who showed promise with two wins from as many starts in England, including an eye-catching debut victory when overcoming trouble.
His Hong Kong debut was more than a pass mark, finding 1200m too sharp on March 4 but sticking on well.
While a little plain in his latest at Sha Tin, he appeared to be looking for further, something the jockey also noted post-race, and returning to Happy Valley with a rise to 1650m and 2kg less from that March 29 run, Romantic Gladiator can improve at odds.
