"This is a proper Grade One" - Allaho on-course for King George
Allaho, Cheveley Park Stud's star racer, is on track for the 2023 King George VI Chase at Kempton, following his successful recovery and return to full training. Despite an abdominal injury last season, Allaho made a triumphant comeback winning over Janidil at Clonmel and is now targeting the esteemed Kempton race on Boxing Day. The horse’s past victories include consecutive wins at the Ryanair Chase and a dominant win at the Punchestown Gold Cup.

Allaho remains on-course for the 2023 King George VI Chase at Kempton, according to Cheveley Park Stud's racing manager, Richard Thompson.
Following his second-straight victory in the Ryanair Chase and a dominant success in the Punchestown Gold Cup, Allaho topped the ante-post market for last year's King George. Sadly, an unusual abdominal injury meant that Willie Mullins' star chaser never made the track last term and many feared Allaho would have to be retired.
Thankfully, Mullins' nine-year-old returned to full training over the summer and cruised to victory over stablemate Janidil on his reappearance at Clonmel. Having come through his prep-run unscathed, Allaho is being lined up for a trip to Kempton on Boxing Day.
“The King George is the plan and has been the plan for a while." Thompson told the press. "I said to Willie to do whatever he thinks and it’s his decision. There are Grade Ones and there are Grade Ones – and this is a proper Grade One.”
“He was obviously off the track for a year and a half. He’s been a brilliant horse for us and you’d hope that he’s going to be in good enough shape to compete and do a decent job."
“He won the Ryanair in 2021, the Ryanair in 2022 and the Punchestown Gold Cup in 2022, and in between times he put in that performance in the John Durkan in 2021, which I think it’s fair to say was a bit workmanlike."
“He wasn’t the Allaho that he was in either of the Ryanairs or in the Punchestown Gold Cup that day, but he still won another Grade One."
“Who knows what will happen at Kempton, but it’s great to be in the race. I appreciate every single one of our Grade Ones, especially the amazing Grade Ones, and the King George is definitely one of those."
Allaho was readily available at 5s and 6/1 for the King George last week. After Thompson spoke to the press, Allaho was cut into 10/3 third-favouritism by Boylesports. The full betting for the 2023 King George VI Chase can be found here on our website.
