The 2025 Cape Town Met headlines an excellent card at Kenilworth today, with the first race set to go off at 9:50am (UK Time). To help you try and find a few winners, here are Magic Tips' South African Horse Racing best bets for every race this afternoon.
Kenilworth Tips - Saturday 25th January
Race 1 - PARENTAL GUIDANCE (8)
PARENTAL GUIDANCE should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung outwards in the run down to the line. His debut victory over 1000m on this course was eye-catching. The son of Querari will love the extra 100m on offer and if keeping on a straight line, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
Race 2 - DOUBLE GRAND SLAM (4)
DOUBLE GRAND SLAM was super-impressive when winning the Grade 1 Cartier Paddock Stakes last time. She was settled in the early stages, quickened up well and drew off in the run down to the line. She has won once, finished second once and third twice from five starts over this distance. The daughter of Vercingetorix is in a very good space and she should notch up her eighth-career victory.
Race 3 - SAARTJIE (2)
SAARTJIE has been disappointing in her last two starts. The stable have opted to fit her with blinkers which should keep her mind on the task at hand. The daughter of Dynasty won her only attempt over this C&D. She jumps from a good draw of two and if putting her best foot forward, she should be too good for this field.
Race 4 - MUCHO DINERO (1)
MUCHO DINERO stayed on when 3.25 lengths behind KING PELLES in the Grade 3 Glorious Goodwood Chairman’s Cup last time. He is 7.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. The son of Twice Over should have no issues with the rise to 2800m and he can return to winning ways.
Race 5 - CAPTAIN WEST (7)
CAPTAIN WEST met a competitive field in the Grade 2 Cape Punters Cup last time. One Stripe has come out and won two Grade 1 races since. The son of One World has been gelded which may have done the trick. He is a horse with ability and if not in need of the run, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
Race 6 - SUMMER LILY (8)
SUMMER LILY has consistent form lines to her credit. She was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes last time. Her best form has come under Jockey Grant van Niekerk. If jumping on terms, she should be the one to beat.
Race 7 - DYCE (4)
DYCE was touched off in his last start over this distance at Turffontein. He won his three starts prior to that outing easier than the official margin suggests. The son of William Longsword won this race last year and if all went well with his travels, he should defend his title.
Race 8 - EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN (10)
EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN stayed on when second in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas behind One Stripe. The son of Lancaster Bomber should love the rise to 2000m. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and is one of the leading contenders.

Race 9 - MAJOR MASTER (8)
MAJOR MASTER was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1400m on this course. The son of Master Of My Fate will be at home over 1800m. Sean Veale retains the ride and he should be the one to beat.
Race 10 - COMMANDING (6)
This is a competitive Class 4 contest and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is COMMANDING from the Glen Kotzen stable. He set the pace over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Garrix. Chad Little retains the ride aboard the son of William Longsword and if getting his own way in front, he may be hard to peg back.
Race 11 - SNOW PILOT (13)
SNOW PILOT is the top bet on the programme. He is better than his last start in the Grade 1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate. He won his previous two efforts over this distance with ease. The son of Lancaster Bomber is at his best over this distance. Richard Fourie is likely to use his early gate speed to overcome the widest draw and he should take a power of beating.
Race 12 - LUNCH MONEY (13)
LUNCH MONEY was doing his best work late when fourth over 1000m on this course last time. He finished 0.1 lengths behind UN BEL DI that day. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the finish. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from nine starts over this C&D. If jumping on terms, he may be the one to beat.
Verdict
Snow Pilot (Race 11) is Magic Tips' best bet at Kenilworth on Cape Town Met day.
