Vaal racecourse hosts a decent card today, with the first race set to go off at 11:55am (UK Time). To help you try and find a few winners, here are Magic Tips' South African Horse Racing selections this morning.

Vaal Races Tips - Thursday 23rd July

Race 1 - CALADRIUS (5)

CALADRIUS stayed on when fourth over this C&D last time. The daughter of Rafeef is fitted with the blinkers which should keep her mind on the task at hand. She is having her peak run and in this field, she can shed her maiden tag.

Race 2 - ASTROPHILE (9)

ASTROPHILE is the top bet on the programme. She was caught late when second on debut over this C&D. The daughter of Heavenly Blue would have gained from the experience. She carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and with the services of Phenisile Mongqawa, she should take a power of beating.

Race 4 - LOLLY WILLOWES (1)

LOLLY WILLOWES has consistent form to her credit. She stayed on when fourth over 1400m on this course last time. It must be noted that Anahita has come out and won again since. The daughter of Willow Magic meets the right field and she can shed her maiden tag.

Race 5 - STEEL PIER (10)

STEEL PIER has shown good improvement in his last two starts. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung in the final 200m. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If Samuel Mosia is able to keep him on a straight line, he can shed his maiden tag.

Race 7 - GLASTONBURY FIRE (5)

GLASTONBURY FIRE clipped heels at the start on debut and never got into the race. He found outside betting support that day which suggests that he was showing some good work at home. The son of Hawwaam would have gained from the experience and will enjoy the extra distance on offer.

Verdict

Astrophile (Race 2) is Magic Tips' best bet of the day at Vaal on Thursday.
