The 2025 Aintree Hurdle is set to be an exciting race with top contenders such as Constitution Hill, Lossiemouth, and Take No Chances. While Constitution Hill is the odds-on favorite despite a recent fall, Lossiemouth and Wodhooh also present significant challenges. Given Constitution Hill's mixed track history, betting strategies include considering an each-way bet on the longshot Take No Chances, who has shown promising form recently. The article highlights the race's potential surprises and offers detailed betting tips for horse racing enthusiasts.

The last of four Grade Ones to take place on day one of Aintree's Grand National Festival is the Aintree Hurdle. Two of Ireland's top mares feature in the entries for this year's renewal, but it's Britain's best hurdler who leads the way in the market.

Here's our free guide to the 2025 Aintree Hurdle, featuring our best betting tips.

2025 Aintree Hurdle Entries

Constitution Hill's unbeaten record was ended by a mid-race fall in the Champion Hurdle earlier this month. Nicky Henderson's star has declared that Britain's top hurdler will run at Aintree before going on to Punchestown, and most bookies list Constitution Hill as the odds-on favourite to win his second Liverpool Hurdle.

Lossiemouth bypassed the Champion Hurdle in favour of a second victory in the Mares' Hurdle and Willie Mullins has handed an Aintree entry to his star mare. Gordon Elliott will be represented by Wodhooh, who maintained her unbeaten record over hurdles with an impressive victory in the Martin Pipe.

After Langer Dan was retired last week, Dan Skelton has subbed in Mares' Hurdle third, Take No Chances. Other runners on day one of the Grand National Festival Gary Moore's five-year-old Salver, Tellherthename for the O'Neills, and Break My Soul for Irish trainer Ian Donoghue.

2025 Aintree Hurdle Tips

Last month's Champion Hurdle was a stark reminder that anything can happen in a horse race. Constitution Hill has to bounce back from the first fall of his career, but he's more than capable of doing just that. On ratings, he should win this race fairly comfortably. However, I'm not sure he was at his best on his only previous start in this race in 2023 and 8/11 is a skinny price to take on the back of that tumble.

Lossiemouth is a magnificent mare and should serve it up to the market leader. Wodhooh is unbeaten over hurdles and was wildly impressive when landing the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham. If she was a double-figure price, I'd be very tempted with an each-way bet.

Instead, I'm going to have a small bet on TAKE NO CHANCES (50/1), who I backed in the Mares' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

Harry Skelton held his mount up out the back, which proved to be the wrong tactic, as Jade De Grugy and Lossiemouth lead throughout. Dan Skelton's mare managed to weave her way through traffic coming down the hill and finished the race better than anyone to place third, crossing the line just two lengths behind runner-up Jade De Grugy - who poached a seven-length lead at the start.

Take No Chances has enjoyed a terrific season, winning the Listed Mares' Hurdle at Wetherby and the Grade Two Mares' Hurdle at Ascot, beating County Hurdle winner Kargese in the process. Skelton's mount saw out two-and-a-half miles well at Cheltenham, and I fancy this flatter track will suit Take No Chances better.

Verdict

Sadly, there are only two paid places available in this year's Aintree Hurdle, but I still fancy an each-way bet on Take No Chances, who was inconvenienced by the way the Mares' Hurdle was run and looks overpriced at 50/1.
