2025 Grand National Betting - Hewick and Stumptown popular with punters this week
In the lead-up to the 2025 Grand National, Irish contenders Hewick and Stumptown are gaining attention and support among punters. Initially available at longer odds, Hewick's price has dropped following the announcement of Gavin Sheehan as his rider. Meanwhile, Stumptown, fresh off a victory at the Cheltenham Festival, has also seen a surge in backing. Intense Raffles remains the favorite at 7/1, but the support for Hewick and Stumptown has shaken up the betting landscape, making them serious contenders for the upcoming race.
- Hewick and Stumptown gain traction in Grand National 2025 betting
- Hewick's odds improved following Gavin Sheehan's announced ride
- Intense Raffles remains the favorite, but market dynamics are shifting
Bookmakers Ladbrokes have reported support for Irish challengers Hewick and Stumptown in their Grand National betting.
Shark Hanlon’s former King George winner could be backed at 50/1 when the betting opened for the Grand National. We even put Hewick up as our first Grand National bet at 20/1 last week. However, a groundswell of support arrived following the weekend’s revelation that Gavin Sheehan is pencilled in to ride him at Aintree has seen his price tumble.
Intense Raffles remains the 7/1 favourite, while other frontrunners like Iroko (8/1 from 7/1) and 2024 National winner I Am Maximus (9/1 from 8/1) have drifted since the Sheehan news.
Cal Gildart of Ladbrokes told RacingInsider.com, “The €850 horse who stunned the racing world with his run from last to first at the 2023 King George is making a similar move in the betting market for this year’s Grand National. With so much backing, you wouldn’t put it past Hewick to go off as the favourite.”
Another popular horse with punters is Gavin Cromwell's Stumptown, who carried top weight to victory in the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last month.
When Cromwell confirmed that Inothewayurthinkin wasn't going to Aintree, he mentioned Stumptown as one of his leading contenders and punters have latched on, forcing Ladbrokes to cut Gavin's Cheltenham winner into 8/1 from 12s.
