Day two of the Grand National Festival features the Melling Chase, a pivotal two-and-a-half-mile Grade One race. Jonbon, last year’s winner, aims for a repeat victory despite missing a win at Cheltenham. Gaelic Warrior and El Fabiolo, who skipped Cheltenham, are set to compete alongside other notable entries. Heart Wood, Protektorat, and Master Chewy also seek glory in this challenging race featuring some of racing's finest horses. This year's lineup promises thrilling competition and high stakes for all involved.

Day two of the Grand National Festival is headlined by the Melling Chase. This two-and-a-half-mile Grade One was first staged at Aintree 1991 and Jonbon will bid to join the likes of Viking Flagship, Voy Por Ustedes and Moscow Flyer on the list of two-time winners when he returns to Merseyside this week.

Let's take a look through the latest Melling Chase betting and run through the headline entries.

2025 Melling Chase Entries

Jonbon came up short again on his quest for a Cheltenham Festival victory, when second to Marine Nationale in the Champion Chase last month. Nicky Henderson's star won this race 12 months ago after missing Cheltenham completely, and Jonbon remains the bookies favourite to claim back-to-back wins.

Willie Mullins has entered Gaelic Warrior, after he missed out on Cheltenham due to some poor work at home. Another Cheltenham absentee was El Fabiolo and he could head to Aintree on the back of a runner-up finish in the Webster Cup at Navan. New Years Day Chase winner, Embassy Gardens is another possible runner for Willie Mullins.

Heart Wood could represent Henry De Bromhead again, following his  runner-up finish to Fact To File in the Ryanair Chase. Protektorat and Master Chewy finished fourth and fifth respectively in that Grade One at Cheltenham, and both have been handed Grand National Festival entries.

Libberty Hunter fell when making progress in the Champion Chase and Evan Williams looks likely to step his star chaser up in trip. Nigel Twiston-Davies' free going front-runner Matata completes the entries.
