Royal Ascot Day 4 Tips
Royal Ascot reaches its penultimate day on Friday and viewers have got another action-packed card to enjoy. The Commonwealth Cup and Coronation Stakes co-main event Friday's card. Along with the two Group Ones, punters will sink their teeth into three wide-open handicaps and two further pattern races.

Royal Ascot 2023 Day 4 Tips
Race 1 - Albany Stakes Tips
Since his first runner, a 33/1 outsider finished ninth in 2013, Roger Varian has had just four runners in the Albany. Cursory Glance and Daayeh won in 2014 and 2019, before he saddled the second and fourth behind Dandalla in 2020.
Varian will be represented by JABAARA (6/1) in this year's renewal and David Egan's mount has plenty going for her. Having travelled sweetly throughout her debut on the Rowley Mile, Jabaara was forced to duck sharply left to circumnavigate the leading pack coming out of the dip. Egan's mount dealt with the manoeuvre brilliantly, kicking clear in the final furlong to win by a cosy length.
Being drawn on a wing down in stall 18 isn't ideal, but the stand's side is usually the quickest part of the straight track at Ascot, so a high draw doesn't put me off. Jabaara can hand Varian a third Albany victory.

Race 3 - Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes Tips
Despite having ten lengths to make up on Al Nafir from their clash at Newmarket last October, I fancy MAKSUD (14/1) will outrun his odds. Hughie Morrison's charge didn't seen to enjoy the first time headgear he was wearing at Newmarket and Maksud was dropped to a mark of 99 after failing to handle the track at Chester on his reappearance.
Prior to that poor effort at Newmarket, Morrison's youngster was progressing nicely. Maksud was only beaten five lengths in the Hampton Court Stakes at this meeting and went on to run a lovely race when second on his handicap debut at Glorious Goodwood, finishing behind the now 110-rated Secret State and ahead of both Inverness and Soulcome - both of whom have gone on to win pattern races for foreign connections since.
Tom Marquand rode Candleford to an impressive victory from stall 18 in this race 12 months ago and Maksud has landed a similarly favourably wide draw out in 15. I think he'll run a mighty race.

Race 5 - Sandringham Stakes Tips
Horses have won the Sandringham from both sides of the draw in recent years, so it seems sensible to have a selection on either side of the track. On the stand's side, I'm quite keen on the Ballydoyle second-string UNLESS (20/1), who finally opened her account at the seventh time of asking at Naas last month.
Having finished second on her first three outings this season, Unless ran out a ready winner under Ryan Moore, kicking clear of two future winners to score comfortably. We know how good Aidan O'Brien is at bringing three-year-olds on gradually and on breeding - being by a US Triple Crown winner in Justify and the first foal out of former Cheveley Park champion Clemmie - Unless should be running in pattern races in the very near future.
A likely candidate to make the running on the low side of the track is FONISKA (28/1). Like Unless, Jessica Harrington's raider is impeccably bred, by Galileo and out of a mare who won four pattern races for Harrington and owners, Flaxman Stables.
A winner on her final juvenile start, Foniska has run over ten furlongs twice this season, shaping well but failing to get home in Listed and Group Three company. Dropping back down in trip is certainly going to help and she's got more than enough stamina to see this one out from the front.
Race 6 - King Edward VII Stakes Tips
Four of the six runners in this contest ran in the Epsom Derby 20 days ago. King Of Steel has been heavily backed in the build-up, despite trainer Roger Varian claiming his plan was to head to the Irish Derby. Fast ground is unlikely to suit this big, gross horse, who only had his first start of the season at Epsom last month.
I can't see Arrest - another huge, heavy horse - liking quick conditions, and neither Dubai Mile nor Artistic Star particularly convinced on similar ground at Epsom. In short, this looks like an ideal opportunity for CONTINUOUS (6/1) to hand Aidan O'Brien a third King Edward VII victory in the last five years.
Continuous won both of his juvenile starts in 2022 and ran a lovely race on his reappearance when third in the Dante at York. Nothing went right for Ryan Moore's mount in the Prix du Jockey Club last time out, but if you can put a line through that effort, then Continuous has to have a massive chance.
Race 7 - Palace Of Holyrood House Stakes Tips
Having tipped him to win the 3YO Dash at Epsom last month, I'm going to go in again on TATTERSTALL (14/1). Michael Dods' youngster managed to grab the stand's rail after a lightning-fast start and Connor Beasley's mount powered home in the closing stages to win by over a length.
Tatterstall bounced off the speedy ground that day and, considering he ran up to an RPR of 95, a seven-pound hike to an official mark of 89 doesn't seem too harsh. Watch out for another bold bid from Tatterstall down the inside rail.
Michael Appleby saddled the winner of the last on day two and I wouldn't be surprised to see his runner, MICHAELA'S BOY (25/1) run better than his current odds would suggest.
On the back of two handicap wins on the all-weather, Appleby ran his star in a Listed race at Chantilly in March. Things didn't go to plan in France, but Michaela's Boy has run much better on his last two outings, fading back to fourth over six furlongs at Newcastle, before holding on for third in the Westow Stakes at York. Three-pound claimer, Freddy Larson retains his place in the saddle and Michaela's Boy could be hard to peg back, given one of his customary speedy starts.
