Friday’s Racing Tips - Four pattern races covered at Newbury and Cork

Friday's flat racing promises excitement with four key pattern races across Newbury and Cork. The St Hugh Stakes at Newbury opens proceedings, with Elevating looking strong after a win at Sandown. Cork then hosts the Firville Stakes, Platinum Stakes, and Give Thanks Stakes, where Maire Rua, Sindagan, and Bosphorus Rose are tipped for success. Bosphorus Rose, especially, stands out in the Group Three, demonstrating superb form since joining Paddy Twomey’s yard. Bettors are encouraged to watch these highlighted contenders for value and proven performances.

Flat racing fans have got four excellent pattern races to enjoy on Friday. The St Hugh Stakes headlines a quality card at Newbury, before Cork stages three pattern races on Give Thanks Stakes evening.

Here are our best betting tips for Friday’s feature races.

5:23pm Newbury - St Hugh Stakes Tips


The bookies are finding it hard to split most of the juveniles in this contest. I like the look of ELEVATING (6/1), who relished the step down to five furlongs when scoring at Sandown last time out.

Richard Hannon’s filly ran well on debut at York in July, before failing to see out seven furlongs on her second outing during Glorious Goodwood. Seven days later, Elevating broke her maiden with a fine victory over the minimum distance at Sandown, running down long-time leader Crazee In Havana as the top two pulled a good way clear of their rivals.

Looking at her breeding, five and six furlongs were always going to be as far as Elevating wanted to go. Sean Levey’s mount clearly takes her racing well, and she’s open to plenty of improvement over sprinting distances.

6:03pm Cork - Firville Stakes Tips


Alwaysanangel brings Group form into this Listed contest, and Madam Secretary cannot be ruled out. MAIRE RUA (7/4) was super impressive when scoring on debut at Leopardstown last month, and Ger Lyons’ filly looks like a Pattern winner in waiting.

Maire Rua was backed into favouritism that day, and put on a dominant performance to score by over two lengths. Nevermindtherain was beaten three lengths in third that day, and has since placed at Group Three level, while runner-up Bellesque beat So Lovely next time out, before running third in the Churchill Stakes last week.

Colin Keane takes the ride on Maire Rua again, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Lyons’ filly jump ahead of Alwaysanangel in the betting before the off.

6:35pm Cork - Platinum Stakes Tips


Johnny Murtagh runs three in this Listed contest, and Ben Coen has opted to retain his Galway Festival-winning partnership with the three-year-old SINDAGAN (9/1).

Murtagh’s gelding got off the mark that day with a fine performance, kicking clear of the front-running Almeiyda to win by just over a length. Coen’s mount carried the best form into that maiden, having gone close behind Accredited, Go Just Do It and Bamako Beach in similar races earlier in the season.

Three-year-olds have won three of the last five renewals of the Platinum, and Sindagan will be getting plenty of weight from some decent older rivals. A wider draw is often a positive over seven furlongs here at Cork. Murtagh’s gelding must have a decent chance.

7:10pm Cork - Give Thanks Stakes Tips


On to the Group Three feature on the card now, where Aidan O’Brien runs the fifth and sixth from the Epsom Oaks, with Ryan Moore preferring Amelia Earhart over Cameo. O’Brien’s record in this contest is surprisingly poor, however, so I’d rather place my faith in three-time winner Paddy Twomey and back favourite BOSPHORUS ROSE (11/4).

Formerly trained by Sir Mark Prescott, Bosphorus Rose has impressed on her two starts since joining Twomey’s operation. First, Twomey’s recruit finished a close third behind Sparan Nua in the Munster Oaks here at Cork, before running away with the Listed Lenebane Stakes at Roscommon.

Bosphorus Rose looked a cut above her rivals that day, and stepping back into Group company won’t bother her. Lee will be happy with his draw in stall four, and his mount is a proven winner on this kind of ground. Bosphorus Rose looks to be the one to side with.
