Thursday’s Panoramic Hurdle, traditionally held at Kempton, will be staged at Carlisle in 2026, bringing together a strong lineup featuring Golden Ace, Wilful, Rubaud, and Burdett Road. While respect is given to leading mare Golden Ace, Burdett Road is the recommended selection. The horse benefits from race conditions and is expected to improve over hurdles after a promising summer on the Flat. The article’s main conclusion is that Burdett Road offers the best chance in this wide-open Listed contest.

Thursday's card at Carlisle has been bolstered by the addition of the Panoramic Hurdle. This Listed hurdle is usually staged at Kempton but has been moved to Carlisle this year, and a stellar field will line up in Thursday's main event.

Here's our free guide to the 2026 Panoramic Hurdle, including our best betting tips.

2026 Panoramic Hurdle Runners

A fortuitous winner of the Champion Hurdle in 2025, Golden Ace claimed another shock Grade One win when taking out the Fighting Fifth Hurdle last November. Jeremy Scott's mare ended her season with a runner-up effort behind Lossiemouth at Punchestown, having finished just four lengths behind Brighterdaysahead at Aintree.

Wilful ran out an impressive winner of the County Hurdle at this year's Cheltenham Festival and finished a place behind Golden Ace when third to the excellent Lossiemouth at Punchestown. Rubaud will be looking to win this Listed contest for the fourth year in a row, but moving the race from his beloved Kempton isn't a positive for Paul Nicholls' stalwart.

Burdett Road followed Golden Ace home at the Cheltenham Festival in 2025 and has a length to find with Rubaud from their clash at Kempton last season. Mirabad starts his campaign over hurdles, despite claiming Grade One honours over fences at Aintree in April.

Sandy Thomson is represented by runaway Scottish Champion Hurdle winner Dedicated Hero. James Owen also runs talented dual-purpose horse Hamlet's Night. France will also be represented on Thursday, as Mickaël Seror sends over summer jumper Inner Success, who'll be ridden by a certain Bryony Le Clerc, née Frost.

2026 Panoramic Hurdle Tips

I'm quite keen to take Golden Ace on here. Lorcan Williams' mount is a two-time Grade One winner and warrants respect. Yet Golden Ace was hammered on her return at Wetherby last season, and Jeremy Scott, who is very much a momentum trainer, hasn't had a winner from 52 runners since February 28th.

The hurdles track at Carlisle suits horses that race prominently, and BURDETT ROAD (11/2) will be getting a handy chunk of weight from most of his competitors. James Owen's six-year-old travelled into last year's race nicely, but wasn't as fluent as Rubaud over the final two flights, and the defending champion managed to maintain a one-length lead all the way down the home straight.

Like last year, Burdett Road returns to hurdling after a busy summer on the Flat. Owen's six-year-old struggled in big handicaps off a triple-figure mark, but ran a commendable race when seventh in the Ebor at York before bumping into the superb Gregory in the Rose Bowl Stakes at Newmarket.

Jonny Burke's mount has only raced over obstacles twice since following Golden Ace home in the 2025 Champion Hurdle and didn't jump particularly fluently at Kempton last season. While that is a slight worry, I'm hopeful that Owen has done a bit of work over obstacles in preparation for the autumn, and Burdett Road looks to have a decent chance in this wide-open Listed contest.

Verdict

Burdett Road is our selection in the 2026 Panoramic Hurdle.
