Aidan O'Brien caused a stir at the Curragh on Sunday, stating that the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is still possible for Auguste Rodin.

Irish Derby winner, Los Angeles has been pointed at the Arc since his Classic triumph earlier in the season. Speaking to the press at the Curragh on Sunday, O'Brien reiterated that Los Angeles is his number one runner, but also said that Auguste Rodin was to be left in the contest.

"The plan is for Los Angeles to go." O'Brien said at the Curragh on Sunday. "Auguste Rodin has been kept on the go just in case the ground came up on the fast side, which it probably won't."

"The plan is for Continuous to go and probably Luxembourg."

Auguste Rodin came up a neck short of Economics when attempting to defend his Irish Champion Stakes crown last month. O'Brien's star is set for a swansong in the Japan Cup and Aidan was quick to remind everyone that that remains his number one objective but teased the possibility of Auguste Rodin running in the Arc if, like last year, the ground was favourably fast.

O'Brien continued, "Last year I didn't do it (leave Auguste Rodin in the race) and it came up fast, so I said I won't make the same mistake this time."

"He'll probably be going straight to Japan, unless the ground is going to be quick at Longchamp."

This news sparked a plunge on Auguste Rodin. Bookmakers Ladbrokes reported a sway of each-way support for O'Brien's star on Sunday night and were quick to cut the former Epsom Derby winner into 16/1 from 33s.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said, "Punters are looking at bigger prices ahead of the Arc and after Auguste Rodin was left in, punters are banking on suitable ground."

The first two from last month's Prix Niel, Sosie and Look De Vega remain first and second favourites for the 2024 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, which takes place at Longchamp on Sunday. Get the latest, updated betting for the Arc here on our website...
