In a surprising development, Charlie Appleby has entered Middle Park Stakes winner, Shadow Of Light, into Saturday's Dewhurst Stakes. Previously, it was believed that Shadow Of Light would not race again this season, with future plans aimed at the 2,000 Guineas or a Commonwealth Cup program. This decision impacts the betting dynamics, with Shadow Of Light emerging as a strong contender alongside Ancient Truth and The Lion In Winter. Racing enthusiasts should prepare for an exciting contest featuring Godolphin and Coolmore's line-up.

In a surprising twist, Charlie Appleby revealed today that Middle Park Stakes winner, Shadow Of Light has been supplemented into Saturday's Dewhurst Stakes.

Shadow Of Light ran out a ready winner of the Middle Park Stakes on the Rowley Mile last month. William Buick's mount handled softish ground well that day, powering past favourite Whistlejacket to record a clear-cut Group One success.

In the immediate aftermath of the Middle Park, Charlie Appleby said that Shadow Of Light was done for the season and the team were yet to decided which path to go down in 2025.

“I would imagine we will put him away for the winter now." Appleby said via the Godolphin website. "It will be a case of whether we look towards the 2,000 Guineas or a Commonwealth Cup programme. From his page, I would say he is a Commonwealth Cup horse. There is a lot of speed there and, as he gets stronger, he will probably get quicker.”

Ancient Truth looked to be Godolphin's number one runner in this Saturday's Dewhurst Stakes. Appleby's colt will put his unbeaten record on the line as he takes on Aidan O'Brien's The Lion In Winter, who dominated the market following his easy victory in the Acomb Stakes.

However, when the Shadow Of Light news broke on Monday, The Lion In Winter drifted from odds-on out to 5/4, with Appleby's Middle Park Stakes winner entering the Dewhurst betting at 5/2.

Appleby said via his official X account, “The current plan is for him to join Ancient Truth and run on Saturday. We are very pleased with what we have seen so far from him, and feel that he has the potential to stretch out to seven furlongs.”

Just three trainers will be represented in Saturday's Dewhurst. Hugo Palmer's Seagulls Eleven will be the only entrant not owned by either Godolphin or Coolmore. Aftermath looks likely to join The Lion in Winter in the field, along with either Expanded or Rock Of Cashel, as O'Brien looks to deal with Appleby's dynamite duo.
