2024 Goodwood Cup Result and Replay - Kyprios shatters the course record with second success

Gregory, who never managed to get to the front at Ascot, was sent straight to the head of the field as the stalls burst open. Ryan Moore sat alongside Gregory early on, but reigned the favourite back to third after a couple of furlongs, as Al Qareem moved up to challenge the pace.

Coltrane sat on the rail in fourth, with Sweet William alongside. Hollie Doyle and Trueshan sat at the rear of the field for the first mile, but was still well in touch with the leaders.

Clifford Lee pushed Al Qareem into a clear lead after ten furlongs. At the top of the hill, Al Qareem attempted to slip the field, and that manoeuvre seemed to get plenty off the bridle. Karl Burke's outsider couldn't maintain his challenge, as Gregory moved back to the front. Kyprios had kept tabs on Gregory throughout the contest, and Ryan Moore's mount soon took command of the contest.

Kyprios forged into a four-length lead at the two-furlong pole. Sweet William kept on gamely from the rear to try and challenge the favourite. Gregory kept on well to his credit too, but Kyprios wasn't for catching and Aidan O'Brien's star picked up his second Goodwood Cup with the minimum of fuss.

After the race, Ryan Moore said that the winner almost slipped over on the top bend. That mishap didn't stop Kyprios from breaking the two-mile course record at Goodwood by over three seconds. A truly sensational performance!
