Day two at Glorious Goodwood is headlined by the Sussex Stakes. This famous race was first staged in 1841 and the form from several of this season's Group Ones over a mile will be advertised at this year's Glorious meeting.

Six runners have been declared for Wednesday's feature at Goodwood. Three three-year-olds and three five-year-olds, and I have it between the younger generation.
Facteur Cheval and Maljoom come into this Group One on the back of lengthy defeats to Charyn in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. Charyn is, by far and away, the best miler in what looks to be a mediocre current crop. Neither is prolific when it comes to winning, and the third older runner, Sonny Liston finished sixth of seven in a Group Two on his most recent outing.
2000 Guineas winner, Notable Speech has to bounce back after a poor showing in the St James's Palace Stakes. Charlie Appleby's star has claimed all of his wins on standard to slow Polytrack and turf that was on the slow side of good. Notable Speech looked all at sea on quicker ground at Royal Ascot and the ground won't be any slower at Goodwood.
There was precious little to split Rosallion and HENRY LONGFELLOW (4/1) in the St James's Palace Stakes. Ryan Moore got the perfect trip in the contest, hitting the front with two furlongs to travel. Sean Levey's mount had to muscle his way through traffic from a tricky spot on the rail, and Rosallion just got up in time to record his second Group One success.
Given the passage both took to the line, you could say that Rosallion was good value for that victory - which he probably was. I do think there's a chance that Henry Longfellow will have improved for that Royal Ascot run more than the winner and Aidan O'Brien has spoken about his colt in glowing terms leading into Glorious Goodwood.

Verdict
Now that Rosallion is out of this year's Sussex Stakes, Henry Longfellow has risen to the head of the market. I could see Notable Speech getting backed into favouritism before the off, so I'll be waiting until the build-up to Wednesday's feature before I place my bets.
