2022 Commonwealth Cup Entries
A two-time Group One winner as a juvenile, Perfect Power didn't see out the mile when seventh in the 2000 Guineas last time out. Richard Fahey's star is favourite to land another Group One as he returns to six furlongs, with Karl Burke's Sandy Lane Stakes winner, El Cabello sitting second in the market.
Go Bears Go could only finish fourth behind El Cabello last time out, but won the Commonwealth Cup Trial well on his reappearance. Mick O'Callaghan will be represented by Twilight Jet, and the recent Lacken Stakes winner has been heavily backed in recent days.
Timber Flow beat Ehraz in the Carnarvon Stakes last time out, and they could renew rivalries at Royal Ascot. US based trainer, Christophe Clement could be represented by the classy Slipsteam, who won the Palisades Stakes on his reappearance.
Fellow US trainer, Wesley Ward has Ruthin and Her World entered up. . Other likely runners include Sense Of Duty, Lusail, Wings Of War, Flaming Rib and Sacred Bridge.
2022 Commonwealth Cup Tip 1 - Go Bears Go
The Sandy Lane Stakes has proven to be a particularly strong trial for the Commonwealth Cup.
Quiet Reflection won at Haydock before going on to score at Royal Ascot. The next three winners of the Sandy Lane finished second or third in the Commonwealth Cup. Last year's Sandy Lane Stakes saw Dragon Symbol - who was first past the post in the Commonwealth Cup - lose out narrowly to Rohaan, who followed up in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot.
Given that record, I have no problem backing two contenders who ran in that Group Two at Haydock, starting with GO BEARS GO.
David Loughnane's charge danced plenty of big dances at two, and bolted up in the Commonwealth Cup Trial here at Ascot on his reappearance. Rossa Ryan's mount stumbled badly leaving the stalls at Haydock last time out, so to finish a three-length fourth can be regarded as a mighty performance.
Once the final field has been revealed, I could see Go Bears Go getting cut into around 5s, maybe 6/1, so I'm keen to take 10/1 now while it lasts.
2022 Commonwealth Cup Tip 2 - Wings Of War
At the ante-post stage, I put up WINGS OF WAR as one of my outsiders to fear at Royal Ascot, so I'm not surprised to see he's been backed into 14/1 from the 25/1 I took last week.
After looking a little flat on his reappearance in the Commonwealth Cup Trial here at Ascot, Wings Of War bounced back to form with a cracking effort in the Sandy Lane Stakes, staying on for third after hitting traffic problems on a couple of occasions.
Wings Of War improved with each of his runs at two and there was a clear improvement between his first couple of outings this season. Clive Cox is no stranger to success in the Commonwealth Cup, having saddled the winner in 2020 and the runner-up three years previous. I doubt whether Wings Of War is in the class of a Golden Horde or a Harry Angel just yet, but he's certainly going in the right direction.

Verdict
Go Bears Go is a leading contender in this Group One and 10/1 is too good a price to turn down.
If Wings Of War has taken another step forward, then I see no reason why he can't get involved, so I'll also back Clive Cox's runner at a slightly longer price.
