2023 Breeders' Cup Classic Tips - Ushba Tesoro
After Arcangelo lost his race against time to recover from a setback, Arabian Knight has been cut into favouritism for the Breeders' Cup Classic. Bob Baffert's three-year-old is a speed horse and Santa Anita is a track that often favours gate speed. A wide draw out in stall 12 is a worry, but it shouldn't be too hard for Flavien Prat to find his favoured prominent early position from out wide.
Arabian Knight might not get an uncontested lead. Saudi Crown has done his best work from the front and wire-to-wire UAE Derby winner, Dermo Sotogake will be keen to show his gate speed, having missed the break in the Kentucky Derby earlier in the season.
White Abarrio loves a fast past to aim at. As does the second Japanese raider in the field, USHBA TESORO (4/1), and I'm leaning further towards Noboru Takagi's mount as the race approaches.
Ushba Tesoro handed Japan its first victory in the Dubai World Cup earlier in the year, running down a top-quality field to eventually score by almost three lengths. Yuga Kawada's mount impressed on his prep run before the Breeders' Cup too, comfortably scoring in a local Grade Two at Funabashi.
He might be the oldest horse in the field, but Ushba Tesoro is fairly lightly raced and ten furlongs is his optimum distance. That victory in the Dubai World Cup is the best piece of ten-furlong form on offer and Japanese flags could be flying high again on day two of the Breeders' Cup.
