Longchamp stages its popular Arc Trials Day card on Sunday afternoon.

Two Group One races, the Prix du Moulin and the Prix Vermeille headline proceedings. The Prix Foy is run over the same course and distance as the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, as is the Prix Niel which - unlike the Prix Foy - is open only to three-year-olds.

Here are our best betting tips on Arc Trials day at Longchamp.

Longchamp Tips - Sunday 7th September


1:33pm Longchamp - Prix Foy Tips


As he's by a former winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and his dam won the Prix Vermeille, MAP OF STARS (11/2) has every chance of getting a mile-and-a-half.

Francis Graffard's star won his first two starts of the season in Group races, before losing out narrowly to Sunday's favourite Sosie in the Prix Ganay. James Doyle's mount has then been beaten in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes and a Group One out in Germany. On both occasions, Map Of Stars endured a fairly rough passage at the rear of the field and couldn't find the requisite change of gear to make up significant ground.

Unlike Sosie and Los Angeles, Map Of Stars is completely unexposed over this distance and recent performances suggest that he's ready for this step up in trip.

3:25pm Longchamp - Prix Vermeille Tips


Earlier in the week, I put GEZORA (4/1) up at 20/1 for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, in the hope that she can challenge Whirl on her first start over this trip.

Gezora's progress this season seems to have taken Francis Graffard by surprise. First, Mickael Barzalona's mount upset highly-touted stablemate Audubon Park in the Prix Saint Alary. Gezora then took down Bedtime Story and two of her more-fancied stablemates when landing the Prix de Diane with an excellent performance at Chantilly.

After that Group One win, Christophe Soumillon said that Gezora should have no problem seeing out the Arc trip and Graffard said at the start of the season that at she'll be at her most comfortable on soft autumn ground. Personally, I think Whirl is much more effective in a strongly-run ten-furlong contest and Graffard's filly will be getting a significant chunk of weight from last year's runner-up Aventure.

4:00pm Longchamp - Prix Niel Tips


As far as the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is concerned, I'm not sure this year's crop of three-year-old colts is particularly strong. Leffard brings Group One-winning form to the table, but - as there are three paid places available - I'm going to chance BAY CITY ROLLER (14/1) at a price.

An unbeaten winner of the Champagne Stakes at two, George Scott has opted for an unusual campaign for his budding stable star in 2025. Bay City Roller finished second to Opera Ballo on his reappearance in the Heron Stakes at Sandown, before going down narrowly to the classy Daryz on his French debut in the Prix Eugene Adam.

Callum Shepherd's mount was well-beaten when sixth in the City Of York Stakes last time out, but shaped better than the bare results suggests, given he was held up and had to challenge down the inside rail. Softer ground seems likely to suit this weekend and there's stacks of stamina in Bay City Roller's breeding. I'm hoping he'll relish this step up in distance.
