After the colts took center stage on Saturday, fillies have their chance to claim Classic glory at the Curragh on Sunday, as the Irish 1000 Guineas is played out. This year marks the 100th edition of this historic Classic and the betting for Sunday's renewal is looking incredibly open.

We've taken a look through the field set to contest this year's Irish 1000 Guineas and picked out our best betting tips

2022 Irish 1000 Guineas Entries

Leopardstown Trial winner, Homeless Songs skipped both the British and French 1000 Guineas to target this Classic at the Curragh. Tuesday sits prominently inthe market, despite Aidan O'Brien stating his filly would head to Epsom for the Oaks after her third in the British 1000 Guineas.

She could be joined by Aidan O'Brien's History, who defeated Agartha to win the Cornelscourt Stakes on her reappearance. Agartha will renew rivalries with History, as will Panama Red, who finished strongly back in fifth.

Mise En Scene could make the trip over from England to contest this Classic. As could Fred Darling Stakes winner Wild Beauty, and Criterium International third Purplepay, who represent red-hot British trainers Charlie Appleby and William Haggas.

Other possible runners include Aidan O'Brien's Epsom Oaks entrant, Concert Hall and Fozzy Stack's once-raced filly, Hermana Estrella. Star Girls Aalmal, Villanova Queen and Lady Innishfree also feature in the betting.

This looks to be an exceptionally open renewal of the Irish 1000 Guineas. Several classy, progressive fillies enter with serious chances.

Tuesday and History are both impeccably bred and either make a worthy winner of this Classic. If Aidan O'Brien was to drop Concert Hall back down in trip, I wouldn't be quick to rule her out.

Homeless Songs clearly has bundles of ability and I don't see this step up in trip dampening her turn-of-foot. Agartha is a solid yardstick and, if Mise En Scene was to turn up at the Curragh, James Ferguson's raider would be a big player.

At this point, we don't know which fillies will turn up on Sunday and I'm finding it difficult to split the market leaders. Therefore, I've looked a little further down the market for an each way option and I've landed on Ger Lyon's contender, PANAMA RED.

After kicking off her career with a couple of fourth-place finishes in seven-furlong maidens, Panama Red comfortably held off the debuting History to open her account at Tipperary in August. Panama Red then held off another talented filly, Limiti Di Greccio to win the Listed Ingabelle Stakes on her final start around Leopardstown.

Lyon's filly has run in the two big Guineas Trials at Leopardstown this season, and Panama Red can count herself unlucky in both of those Group Threes.

Panama Red was posted wide throughout after a slow start from stall 12 in the Guineas Trial in April, and her late progress was only good enough for sixth. In the Cornelscourt Stakes last time out, Colin Keane's mount tanked into the race along the inside rail. Sadly, all of the fading front-runners fell right into her lap. Panama Red dodged through the traffic as best she could, hitting the line hard just two lengths behind History in fifth.

Given how both of those races panned out, Lyons will be encouraged by Panama Red's performances so far this season. Colin Keane's mount saw out a mile strongly at Leopardstown and ran well here at the Curragh in a maiden last season.

Verdict

If she can catch a kind draw and get a little more luck in running, then I see no reason why the progressive Panama Red can't mount a serious challenge. At 16/1, I think she's the best each way bet in this wide-open Classic.
