🌟 Stable Stars

Chantry House

He’s had a wind operation during the summer but the most surprising thing for me has been his physical development and he’s a beast. I am excited about him as we know he is very good. We entered him for the Grand National last season and that could be an option this time. The Coral Gold Cup at Newbury in November is a possibility and that would be a great track for him.

Constitution Hill

It was amazing what he did last season, and we just pray it wasn’t a dream and he comes back as good as ever. I hesitate to say better because how can he be? As longs as he is as good as he was that would appear to be enough. We will look at the Ascot Hurdle for him and the two mile and three and a bit is not going to worry him. It will be either that or the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle and the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton. After that we would look at something like the Contenders Hurdle at Sandown or the Kingwell at Wincanton which I like before the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. He’s a great big chaser and could go over fences tomorrow but he has such an engine and mind that you can do anything with him.

Epatante

She had another great season in 2021/22 and proved she stayed two and a half miles at Aintree which opens options. If it looks like she isn’t going to beat Honeysuckle and Constitution Hill in the Champion, then the Mares’ Hurdle would be a possibility.

Jonbon

He has only been beaten once in his life and that was by Constitution Hill and without his stablemate in the Supreme, he would have been a good winner. He has had a great summer at Martinstown and you would have to hope he could be one this year’s star novice chasers.

Shishkin

His clash with Energumene in the Clarence House was most people’s eyes the race of the year and both horses out the race with tremendous credit. We were happy going into Cheltenham, but it was very soft going on the Wednesday and I knew something was going wrong before the first fence and Nico pulled him up after the fifth. He was found to have a chronic bone disorder throughout his body, and he has be box rested. He is cantering away but we will be in no rush with him and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t come back as good. He will stay at two miles and the plan is to end up in the Champion Chase for another clash with Energumene.

➡️ Novice Hurdlers

Ahorsewithnoname

She is really lovely mare to have, and she’s got only got two objectives the Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday and the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham in March. We decided to keep her as a maiden over hurdles for this season after her Cheltenham run and hopefully she can enjoy a lucrative season.

Amrons Sage

He is an embryonic chaser, but he will go over hurdles first and should do well in that sphere.

Attacca

He ran very promising race on his debut in a bumper at Warwick in the spring and he has schooled really well. He is distant relative to Altior and he should do well in novice hurdle company.

Ballyhigh

He was a very impressive winner of his point-to-point in Ireland, and we bought him at the Cheltenham Racecourse Sale. He has schooled well and does everything very nicely and he shouldn’t too long in going over hurdles.

Between Waters

I would like to think she would take high rank in mares’ novices’ hurdles this season. I wanted to run her in a bumper in the spring, but the ground stopped us. She jumps very well, and she looks an exciting prospect.

Bold Reaction

He is a horse we like a lot, and he has summered incredibly well. He wants a bit of cut in the ground but looks a lovely prospect for novice hurdles.

Bombay Sapphire

She is a big scopey mare who came to us from Ireland and will go mares’ novice hurdling. She looks to have a very bright future.

Firestep

It was very frustrating that he missed last season with a ligament problem as I thought he could be one of our star novice hurdlers. Hopefully, we will have a clear run with him this time and I would be disappointed if he doesn’t prove to be very good.

Iberico Lord

He is a very exciting prospect who has schooled really well and will start his novice hurdle campaign shortly.

Impose Toi

He is another that JP acquired from the AQPS bumper field. He has shown he jumps very well, and he is another exciting prospect for novice hurdles.

Issuing Authority

He is an embryo chaser and has already shown us he is a natural jumper. He should do well over hurdles before he turns to fences.

Jet Powered

He was an easy winner of his point-to-point and was pleasing us in the spring before we put him away. He will go novice hurdling and is another very exciting prospect we have in that Supreme Novices' Hurdle division.

Lady D'arbanville

She was very green but ran a promising race in her bumper at Bangor in May. She has schooled very well and will go straight into mares’ novices’ hurdles.

Lightfoot Lady

She is a half sister to Firestep, and she made a winning start at Stratford in the spring. She has done plenty of schooling and looks another exciting prospect for mares’ novice hurdles.

Luccia

She was highly impressive in her bumpers last season, and he win in a listed bumper at Sandown in the spring was breathtaking. She has the habit of locking her stifle and one morning it wouldn’t unlock. She went over and couldn’t get up, but our veterinary team did wonders to unlock it and, thankfully, she has made a full recovery. She could be anything if all goes well, she could be very high class over hurdles.

Park Hill Dancer

He was bought by Middleham Park Racing after winning a bumper at a point-to-point and he made his debut for us at Exeter and won very impressively. He will go straight over hurdles, and he is a very tough individual who should do well.

Petrossian

He retains his novice status for this season, and I hope we can take advantage of that. He is the first horse I have trained for Malcolm Denmark, and I am looking forward to getting him going.

Queen's Rock

She has done very well physically through the summer, and we can’t wait to get her started towards the  Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. I think she has a very bright future.

➡️ Older Hurdlers

Buzz

He won the Ascot Hurdle very well and we were getting him ready to step up to three miles in the Long Walk, but he unfortunately fractured his pelvis two days before. It’s too early to say if he will be back and there has been significant muscle wastage. We certainly would like to get him back, but we will do right by the horse and if he can’t then he has certainly earned a long and happy retirement.

Champ

He has had more work on his back again this year and we decided to go back hurdling with him last year to make things easier for him. He was very impressive in the Long Walk, but I don’t think he quite performed to that level in the Stayers’ at the Festival or at Aintree. He has come back from Martinstown looking absolutely magnificent and I am sure that there are many big days ahead of him.

First Street

He is a very good jumper and a really nice horse to have anything to do with. He could easily jump a fence, but I think we will continue over hurdles for the time being and could start in the Coral Hurdle at Newbury at the end of November.

Marie's Rock

She was a revelation last season, winning the Mares' Hurdle, and I just didn’t know how good she was. I can only imagine she will go down the same road again and I think she could easily go three miles if we want too.

Pentland Hills

He missed last year but he had been ready to run on the Flat during the summer but never got his ground and then popped up at Haydock in September. He could have another run on the Flat and then will go back over hurdles, but he was always a brilliant jumper and could have his attentions turned to chasing at some point.

Theatre Glory

We will see how far she goes up the mares’ ladder, but she is obviously pretty high class and we have a lot to look forward to. She was incredibly progressive last season, and she could be even better with another summer on her back.

Walking On Air

He was a comfortable winner of his novice hurdle at Aintree, and we considered him a Cheltenham prospect but, unfortunately, he suffered from lameness related to his back. He went to Aintree on the back of a slightly unsatisfactory preparation, and he just didn’t turn up. He has been to Coolmore for the summer and had some little repairs done and has come back into training in tremendous condition and I have little doubt he has ability to possibly go to the top as a Stayers' Hurdle contender. He is very talented and let’s hope has the opportunity to show that this season.

Wiseguy

He, unfortunately, came back with an injury after winning at Doncaster which ruled him out for the rest of the season. He has had a good summer in Ireland is ready to go again. He obviously is inexperienced, and we might start him back over hurdles and see where we go with him. I think he is a horse with a very bright future.

➡️ Novice Chasers

Balco Coastal

He did very well for us over hurdles last season and finished an excellent third to Langer Dan in a handicap hurdle at Aintree in April. He has strengthened up really nicely during the summer and he could go novice chasing this time. He is one to look forward too.

Blairegowrie

He has always been a chaser in the making and we hope he can make a much better chaser than he was a hurdler. He should give the Highclere team a lot of fun.

Craigneiche

He had problems with a suspensory ligament but, hopefully, that is all behind him now and he is potentially a very high-class horse. He might well gain a bit more experience over hurdles before he goes chasing.

Mister Coffey

➡️ Older Chasers

Allart

He had a horrible neurological problem in the Summer of 2021, but he has had loads of rehab work with Charlie Vigors and Ian Ferguson in Northern Ireland, and he has come back in fantastic shape. Let’s hope he can continue where he left off as if he does he still has the potential to be top drawer over fences.

Caribean Boy

He has been something of an enigma but can look really good on his day. He was going to go for the Grand National but went slightly lame and we had to take him out. He may return over the National fences in the Becher Chase in December.

Dusart

He really got his jumping together on his final start at Ayr. It was a very brave performance under topweight and a good finale to his season. He has a wind operation since then and back surgery and should be ready to continue his way to the top over fences.

Fusil Raffles

He was a fortunate winner of the Charlie Hall Chase when Shan Blue fell but there have been plenty of days when things like that have happened to us and we gratefully accepted the gift. He ran well after that and was a good third in a handicap hurdle at Sandown on the final day of the season. He will go back to Wetherby on October 29th for either the Charlie Hall or the West Yorkshire Hurdle.

Mister Coffey

He is still a novice for this season but obviously has some very high-class form and was second in the Kim Muir. The Topham probably came a year too soon for him, but he could end up in anything and might well be National horse.

Mister Fisher

He has had a lovely summer with his owners James and Jean Potter, and he is a horse who doesn’t like it too soft so he may go for the American Grand National long term. He will run in the classier chases again and should do well if the ground is decent.

Valsheda

He has tremendous size and scope and is out of a mare we trained for Richard and Lizzie Kelvin-Hughes. He finished off last season with a win at Ffos Las and he can only prove further with experience. He stays all day, and we have a lot to look forward to with him.

Persian Time

We are just learning about him, but he is ready made to go over hurdles and we like what we have seen so far.
