Durbanville Tips - Saturday 19th October
Race 1 - CORK BAY (4)
CORK BAY has produced two good runs to date. He moved up like a winner over this C&D last time, but was caught late by Bagatelle Flash. The son of Rafeef is coming along the right way and in this field, he should take a power of beating.
Race 2 - FUTURE SWING (3)
FUTURE SWING cost himself winning the Grade 3 World Pool Gold Cup last time as he hung inwards in the closing stages. He returns from a 12-week break which may have done him the world of good. He has won twice, finished second once and third twice from six starts on this course. Richard Fourie steps back into the saddle and if not in need of the run, he can notch up his eighth-career victory.
Race 3 - DOUBLE GRAND SLAM (5)
DOUBLE GRAND SLAM was unlucky not to have won the Grade 1 Ridgemont Garden Province Stakes last time as she had no luck in the straight. She returns from a 15-week break which would have done her the world of good. She has won four times and finished second once from five starts over this distance. She races well fresh and is the horse to beat.
Race 8 - PEREGRINE FALCON (5)
PEREGRINE FALCON showed good guts and determination when winning his maiden at the third time of asking. He was returning from a lengthy 32-week break that day. The son of Gimmethegreenlight takes on stronger but he looks to have some class about him. With his handy galloping mass of 55.5kgs, he should run a big race.
Race 10 - SAHARA CAT (1)
SAHARA CAT returns from a 12-week break and is having her first run this season. The daughter of One World is unbeaten from two starts over this distance. She is the class horse in the race and from pole position, she can return to winning ways.
Turffontein Tips - Saturday 19th October
Race 2 - RONDEBOSCH (7)
RONDEBOSCH tried hard when second over 1200m on this course last time. He returns from a 21-week break, during which time he was gelded. Gavin Lerena rides on his return and if not in need of this outing, he should be the one to beat.
Race 4 - LUNAR RAINBOW (5)
LUNAR RAINBOW showed massive improvement when third over 1800m at the Vaal last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day suggests that she will love the rise to 2000m. The daughter of Rabada is a progressive type and in this field, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
Race 5 - GOOD COUNCIL (1)
GOOD COUNCIL had to come from a long way back when fifth over 1800m on the Vaal Classic course last time. The son of Oratorio finished fourth over this C&D in his penultimate start. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 2.5kgs off his back. If not too far out of his ground, he should return to winning ways.
Race 7 - WE ARE THE LOGANS (2)
WE ARE THE LOGANS quickened up well when winning his last start over 1400m at the Vaal. He received a five-pound penalty for that victory. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and with just 55kgs on his back, he can follow up with another victory.
Race 8 - WILD INTENT (4)
WILD INTENT followed up his debut victory with a good fourth-place finish over 1400m at the Vaal. He was squeezed leaving the starting stalls but finished off his race strongly. The son of Gimmethegreenlight looks to have some class about him and he may be the one to side with.
Verdict
Double Grand Slam (Race 3) is Magic Tips' best bet at Durbanville on Saturday. Over at Turffontein, Rodenbosch (Race 3) is the NAP of the day.
