Fairview racecourse hosts its usual Friday meeting today, and the first race is set to go off at 11:15am (UK Time). To help you try and find a few winners, here are Magic Tips' South African Horse Racing selections for today.

Fairview Tips - Friday 16th October

Race 1 - WEEKEND IN ASPEN (8)

WEEKEND IN ASPEN ran a good race when second over this C&D last time. Despite over racing in the early stages, she finished second. The daughter of Futura is a progressive type and with just 54.5kgs on her back, she can go one better.

Race 4 - CASPERITA (5)

CASPERITA was not disgraced when fifth in the Listed TAB Casino Champion Juvenile Cup last time. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day suggests that she will enjoy the rise to the mile. The daughter of Fire Away returns from a 12-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie steps back into the saddle and she can win if fit.

Race 6 - STOKESY (2)

STOKESY is the top bet on the programme. He set the pace over 1400m on this course last time before getting outrun late by Blame It On Me. He finished second, a neck behind the winner over this C&D in his penultimate outing. The son of Fire Away is likely to get his own way in front again and may be hard to peg back.

Race 7 - MERCANTOUR (1)

MERCANTOUR is one of the better bets on the card. He was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1400m on this course. The son of Var won this race last year and has no issues with the distance. Richard Fourie steps back into the saddle and the 7yo gelding is the horse to beat.

Race 8 - SILVANO’S SONG (1)

SILVANO‘S SONG finished 0.35 lengths behind TORI‘S GIRL last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough to turn the form around. The son of Silvano will strip a much fitter horse. If not too far out of his ground turning for home, he can notch up his fourth-career victory.
