Longchamp stages its popular Arc Trials Day card on Sunday afternoon, and we've picked out four horses for you to back.

Two Group One races, the Prix du Moulin and the Prix Vermeille headline proceedings. The Prix Foy is run over the same course and distance as the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, as is the Prix Niel which - unlike the Prix Foy - is open only to three-year-olds.

Here are our best betting tips on Arc Trials day at Longchamp.

Longchamp Tips - Sunday 6th September

2:50pm Longchamp - Prix Vermeille Tips

Earlier in the week, I put up Sunly at 50/1 for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Fillies and mares have an excellent recent record in Europe's most prestigious Flat race, and a victory for Sunly on Sunday would see her Arc odds shorten considerably.

Francis Graffard's filly is much shorter than I expected her to be in the betting for Sunday's opening Group One. Sunly faces a deep and talented field, and at the prices, I'll take an each-way punt on LAPOTHEOSE (22/1).

Yann Barberot's filly made it four wins from four starts in France when cruising to victory in the Group Two Prix Saint-Alary in May. Lapotheose was one of the outsiders of the field that day, with punters piling into Graffard's Gilded Prize, but it was Alexis Pouchin's mount who swooped from the rear and powered clear of the field.

Lapotheose then lost her unbeaten record in the German Oaks at Dusseldorf earlier this month. The French raider didn't handle the tight bends particularly well and was forced wide to make her challenge turning for home, allowing Soreanga to steal a march on the short-priced favourite and claim an impressive three-length success.

Barberot won't have been too discouraged by that defeat, and a return to slower French ground is certainly a plus. A low draw has been vital in recent renewals of the Arc, so Lapotheose should be well placed to challenge from stall three over the same course and distance.

3:25pm Longchamp - Prix du Moulin Tips

4:00pm Longchamp - Qatar Prix Niel Tips

Aidan O'Brien will saddle the favourite for this race too, as Benvenuto Cellini looks to enhance his Arc credentials. However, soft ground in Paris might not suit the market leader, so I'm happy to take Ryan Moore's mount on with the improving ALAM (6/1).

Mikel Delzangles' colt claimed his maiden victory in the Prix Greffulhe in May, before taking his chance in the Prix du Jockey Club. Alam was forced to sit wide near the rear of the pack from his draw in stall 16, but finished his race well to cross the line fifth, behind Aidan O'Brien's trio and the talented A Boy Named Susie.

Alam then tackled the quickest turf he'd ever faced in the Grand Prix de Paris. Pierre-Charles Boudot's mount travelled into the race well enough, but couldn't find an extra gear on such a fast surface, and was eventually beaten into third by Maltese Cross and Ancient Egypt.

Alam has only been beaten by British and Irish raiders in two of France's top three-year-old Group Ones this season. Delzangles' star ran well at Longchamp in July, and softer going should play to his strengths. If Benvenuto Cellini doesn't act on the ground, Alam could be ready to take advantage.

4:35pm Longchamp - Qatar Prix Foy Tips

Daryz will face just three rivals as he limbers up for the defence of his Arc crown. Quest For Magic and Uthred have no chance. The same can't be said for BAY CITY ROLLER (3/1), who could steal this from the front if Oisin Murphy makes this a proper test of stamina.

Bay City Roller led from pillar to post when winning the Preis von Bayern last November, thrashing a strong rival in Tiffany by seven lengths. George Scott's stable star then made the most of a ferocious pace set by the Ballydoyle runners in a soft-ground Coronation Cup, powering remorselessly up the centre of the track to hammer Jan Brueghel and an under-par Calandagan by ten lengths.

Daryz likes to be held up, and I can't see either of the outsiders trying to make the running. Oisin Murphy and George Scott will surely come up with a plan to maximise Bay City Roller's stamina, and if Daryz isn't at his best, that plan might just come off.
