With Corbetts Cross withdrawing from the Betfair Chase due to a health issue, JP McManus has fielded Capodanno as a substitute for the upcoming race at Haydock. Trained by Willie Mullins, Capodanno has a strong track record, including a victory at the Cotswold Chase. Now lined up in Saturday's event, Capodanno is priced at 6/1 alongside Royal Pagaille. Meanwhile, Grey Dawning, trained by Dan Skelton, moved into favor as other top contenders await in the competitive race lineup.

With Corbetts Cross set to miss the contest, JP McManus has supplemented Capodanno into Saturday's Betfair Chase.

A runaway winner of the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, Corbetts Cross was being readied for Haydock by Emmet Mullins. However, Mullins' stable star was noticeably weak in the market over the weekend and it surprised no one when Corbetts Cross was ruled out.

“Corbetts Cross had a bad scope on Saturday morning and he isn’t fit to travel", revealed Frank Berry, JP McManus' racing manager, "It just all came too quick."

Mares' Chase winner, Limerick Lace could carry the famous green and yellow silks into Saturday's main event. However, McManus has made the decision to sub in Capodanno, after Corbetts Cross was ruled out.

Berry continued, “Willie (Mullins) is happy with Capodanno, so we decided we’d let him take his chance.”

“Everybody was very happy with Capodanno and the John Durkan looks like it’s going to be a very hot race on Sunday so he’ll take his chance at Haydock on Saturday instead.”

Capodanno is no stranger to big race success in the UK, having won the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham last January. Willie Mullins' star has entered the Betfair Chase betting at 6/1 with bet365, the same price as defending champion Royal Pagaille.

Dan Skelton's Grade One winner, Grey Dawning shortened into 15/8 favouritism after Corbetts Cross was ruled out. Lucinda Russell's stable star, Ahoy Senor sits second in the market. Other possible runners include Hewick, The Real Whacker and French raider, Gold Tweet.
