After a turbulent week at Royal Ascot, John Gosden dropped Frankie Dettori as his lead rider. Following a meeting at Newmarket that weekend, the duo decided to take a "sabbatical" - you can read about the initial split here on our website.

Speaking to the press at Sandown on Saturday, John Gosden said he was pleased with how Frankie had dealt with the setback and refused to answer questions as to whether Dettori would ride for the Gosden's again this season.

Over the weekend, the Gosden's confirmed that Dettori would travel to the Curragh later this month to ride Emily Upjohn in the Irish Oaks. Today, it seems the fractured relationship between jockey and trainer had been healed, when it was confirmed that Dettori would again partner the unbeaten Inspiral in Friday's Falmouth Stakes.

"Frankie is a great jockey but can be easily distracted." Gosden told the press today. "That was beginning to frustrate me. I’m sorry it has been a public disagreement but there comes a stage when you have to get someone’s attention."

"I need a jockey that focuses. It can't be a part-time job."

"As it was pointed out at Wimbledon, Rafa Nadal practises the most and the hardest in the mornings. That is what it is all about and that is very clear."

"I said I'm pleased the way Frankie has got on with it and getting rides everywhere else. It is exactly what I wanted to see. He has rather taken a lot of pride in how few mounts he has in a season.

"I'm very clear that working with him in the last seven years we have been very careful how we've managed it and the rides. He doesn't need to be charging off to the small tracks. Those days are over.

"We did that in the 1990s together but I'm very clear we need to be more focused and a little less part-time, that is all. That is what it is about and nothing else. That is all I'm going to say."

Gosden also confirmed that Dettori would be riding Mighty Ulysses in this week's Sir Henry Cecil Stakes, before jetting off to Belmont Park following his ride on Inspiral.

Inspiral will face just four rivals in Friday's main event at Newmarket. Prosperous Voyage, who followed Inspiral home in two pattern races as a juvenile, heads the chasing pack. Primo Bacio, Sandrine and French raider, Sibila Spain round off the Falmouth Stakes field.
