One of the best flat meetings of the season kicks off on Tuesday, as a capacity crowd gathers in Sussex for day one of Glorious Goodwood.

The Goodwood Cup headlines today's card, which also features two further pattern races and a handful of quality handicaps. Here are our through-the-card tips on day one of Glorious Goodwood.

Glorious Goodwood Day One Tips


Race 1 - Coral Handicap Tips


WHENTHEDEALINSDONE (14/1) has previous at this meeting, having won the World Pool Handicap sprint on Nassau Stakes day in 2021. 

Roger Teal's five-year-old hasn't tasted victory since winning at Ascot in September, but has threatened to go close a couple of times this season, most notably at Windsor back in May. Oisin Murphy's mount is back running off his last winning mark and softer ground won't be a bother to him. 14/1 is an appealing each-way price.

Race 2 - Maiden Stakes Tips


Several runners bring decent placed form into this maiden, but I quite like the look of Charlie Hills' debutante, ROBBO (16/1). Kieran Shoemark's mount is by a good sire of juveniles in Camacho and he's out of an Alderflug mare, so he could be very comfortable dealing with trick ground conditions. It's a risk backing a debutante against more experienced runners, but it's one I'm willing to take.

Race 3 - Chesterfield Cup Handicap Tips


Tuesday's ITV coverage begins with this valuable handicap, in which I'm quite keen on the chances of PARADIAS (14/1) at an each-way price.

Alan King's four-year-old ran well twice at Goodwood last season, placing behind Cauis Chorister and Savvy Victory. Richard Kingscote's mount won nicely at Sandown on his penultimate start and, although he failed to replicate that performance in a Class Two next time out, Paradias still seems to be progressing in the right direction.

Race 4 - Vintage Stakes Tips


After an encouraging run in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, Frankie Dettori will fancy his chances of landing a record-breaking seventh Vintage Stakes aboard GOLDEN MIND (5/1).

Richard Fahey's younger went into that Listed race on the back of a maiden win at Leicester. Golden Mind got squeezed out of his position when the pace picked up at Ascot, but finished the race off strongly to cross the line a close third. This contest looks entirely winnable and there's no doubt that Golden Mind has plenty of scope for further improvement.

Race 5 - Lennox Stakes Tips


Over seven furlongs on softish ground, there aren't many better around than Kinross and a bold bid from the favourite seems almost certain. That being said, Ralph Beckett's star was beaten in this race 12 months ago and stall one could pose Frankie Dettori with a few challenges.

Kinross could also have his work cut out giving six pounds to talented three-year-old ISAAC SHELBY (9/2), who hacked up on soft ground in the Greenham Stakes on his reappearance. Sean Levey's mount was then only beaten a short-neck in the French 2000 Guineas, before fading from the front to finish fourth in the St James's Palace Stakes. 

Seven furlongs on testing ground should suit Isaac Shelby perfectly and he's got more than enough class to land this Group Two.

Race 7 - Fillies' Handicap Tips


Given her course form and that eye-catching run at Sandown last time out, I'm quite surprised to see that NOVUS (9/1) can be backed at such a lengthy price. 

Tom Queally rode Gary Moore's filly to victory here on soft ground in May, before running well when sixth in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot. Novus flew home from off the pace to finish just a length behind Classic in a classy handicap 24 days ago and Moore's filly will run off the same mark on Tuesday afternoon.

Race 8 - Fillies' Handicap Tips


Kitai will be a tough nut to crack in Tuesday's card closer. At the prices, though, I'd prefer to have an each-way punt on MINNETONKA (16/1), who's so far failed to live up to the promise she showed as a juvenile last season.

Having been beaten in eight pattern races, Richard Hannon threw his filly into handicap company for the first time at Newmarket two weeks ago, where Jamie Spencer's mount shaped with promise before fading back to sixth late on. The handicapper has responded by dropping Minnetonka's mark by three pounds down to 85 and I fancy the track at Goodwood will suit her style of running much better than the July Course did.
