2023 Sussex Stakes Entries
Paddington has enjoyed a meteoric rise to stardom this season. Following handicap and Listed victories, Aidan O'Brien's star claimed Classic glory at the Curragh, won the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and completed a stunning five-timer with victory over Emily Upjohn in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown.
Paddington's reputation has resulted in just five horses being entered against him. The only other runner sitting on a single-figure price is Inspiral, who was beaten a neck by Triple Time in the Queen Anne Stakes on her reappearance.
Aldaary makes his first start in a Group One, having been beaten in two lesser pattern races this season. Chindit could finish only sixth of seven behind Baaeed in this race 12 months ago, but he too takes his chance, following a sixth-place finish in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.
Facteur Cheval makes the trip over from France, on the back of an excellent effort in the Prix d'Ispahan. Roger Varian's three-year-old Charyn, who has twice been beaten four lengths by Paddington this season, completes the small, select field.
