2022 Juddmonte International Stakes Entries
Baaeed maintained his unbeaten record with an effortless victory in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. William Haggas has been keen to push his star miler up to ten furlongs for a while now and, with Desert Crown, Vadeni and Adayar out of the race, William Hill makes Baaeed their 4/11 favourite.
Leading the charge against the favourite is Mishriff, who bolted up by six lengths in this race 12 months ago. Charlie Appleby's Irish Guineas winner, Native Trail finished a place behind Mishriff when third in the Coral-Eclipse, and could remain over ten furlongs.
William Haggas will run Tattersalls Gold Cup hero, Alenquer and dual Group Two winner Dubai Honour. Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore team up with High Definition. York Stakes winner, Sir Busker rounds off the field.
2022 Juddmonte International Stakes Tips
Despite that perfect record over a mile, Baaeed is bred to be a middle-distance horse. He's by Sea The Stars, out of a Listed winner over ten furlongs and his full brother, Hukum won the Coronation Cup at Epsom earlier this season.
The way Baaeed travels suggests he'll get ten furlongs no problem at all and York is, arguably, the fairest track in the country. I usually bet without Baaeed whenever he runs and it could be worth delving into that special market once again. Yet, given that this is his first start over a mile, I'm going to take the odds-on favourite on with last year's winner, MISHRIFF.
John Gosden's star blew Alanquer, Love and Mohaafeth away with a peerless performance at the Ebor Festival 12 months ago. Mishriff has failed to win in four starts since last year's Juddmonte International, but I don't think anyone will disagree that he would have won the Coral-Eclipse given a clear run to the line, and James Doyle's mount blew the start on his most recent outing in the King George.
Gosden's five-year-old has won a Group One on heavy ground and even proved his versatility by winning lucrative races over nine and 12 furlongs during his career. If you asked John Gosden what Mishriff's ideal conditions would be, I'm sure he would say a quickly-run ten-furlongs on fast ground and, with High Definition set to line up on Wednesday, that should be exactly what Mishriff will get in this year's Juddmonte International Stakes.
Verdict
Baaeed steps up to ten furlongs for the first time on Wednesday and last year's runaway winner, Mishriff will provide the favourite with a stern test. At 9/2, Mishriff is the best bet.
