On Sunday, 20 of the world's best racehorses will battle it out in the 2022 renewal of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

This famous Group One was first staged at Paris-Longchamp racecourse back in 1920. During its 102-year history, many of Europe's finest have landed this most prestigious prize, including legendary names like Mill Reef, Dancing Brave, Sea The Stars, Treve and Enable.

The field is yet to be confirmed for Sunday's renewal of the Arc. That hasn't stopped us from running through the latest betting and picking out our best Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe tips

Vadeni's connections claim to have chosen a tilt at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe over a clash with Baaeed on Champions Day, because the ground looked likely to come up good.

As of Wednesday morning, the going at Longchamp was "Very Soft". The Met Office has forecast showers on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday afternoon and a significant downpour in the early hours of Saturday morning. By the time 3:00pm on Sunday rolls around, I can't see the Longchamp going having any good in the description whatsoever.

Another mark against Vadeni's name is the fact that he's completely untested over 12 furlongs. All of the last ten Arc winners had won over the distance, nine of those ten having triumphed over the trip at Group One level. Vadeni has never struck me as a stayer, so he'll be the first I cross off my list.

Luxembourg, in contrast, has always shaped like 12 furlongs would suit. His lack of proven stamina, though, has to count against him - especially if the going is exceedingly soft. Japanese raider, Titleholder will have no trouble at all seeing out this distance, but soft ground is a complete unknown for Toru Kurita's four-year-old.

Alpinista holds solid claims and it was hard not to be impressed by her Yorkshire Oaks victory. Whether she can raise her game to the heights needed to win Europe's most prestigious flat race, I'm not so sure. Westover has the natural talent to triumph in a race of this stature, but the Irish Derby he won was an absolute shocker and he's got to bounce back from a dreadful showing in the King George.

TORQUATOR TASSO may have returned the longest SP in Arc history when he won this race as a 72/1 outsider 12 months ago, but there was nothing lucky about his victory. Marcel Weiss' star travelled beautifully throughout the race and outstayed the three market protagonists to claim that famous win.

Following a poor reappearance effort this spring, Torquator Tasso bounced back to form with an easy Group Two triumph in Germany. Rene Piechulek's mount then ran a blinder to finish second to Pyledriver in the King George, where the Ascot ground was far too fast for his liking.

The defending champion may return to Longchamp racecourse on the back of a defeat, but the Preiss von Baden turned into a real sprint to the line, which was never going to suit this dour stayer. With Piechulek obliged to partner Preiss von Baden winner Mendocino, Frankie Dettori will again ride Torquator Tasso on Sunday and there's every chance that last year's winner will make it back-to-back victories in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

2022 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Tip 2 - Onesto

I wouldn't be quick to write off either Sealiway or Alenquer, and might back both at staggeringly long prices. That being said, my second selection is going to be ONESTO who, as a three-year-old, will be getting weight from the older runners in this year's contest.

Fabrice Chappet's charge shot to prominence in France following an impressive triumph in the Prix Greffulhe back in May. After staying on from well off the pace to finish fifth behind Vadeni in a red-hot Prix du Jockey Club, Onesto made a winning debut over 12 furlongs in the Grand Prix de Paris, where Stephane Pacquier's mount comfortably saw off future Prix Neil winner, Simca Mille and the winner of the St Leger earlier this month, Eldar Eldarov.

Despite a big drift on the day of the Irish Champion Stakes, Onesto proceeded to run another storming race, finishing just half a length behind Luxembourg in second. Stepping back up to 12 furlongs should really suit this course-and-distance winner. 12/1 underplays his chances.
