Fairyhouse Tips on April 6th - Best bets on Irish Grand National day

Easter Monday at Fairyhouse features the highly anticipated Irish Grand National, alongside other thrilling races. In the Juvenile Hurdle, HARWA (20/1) is backed to improve after a disappointing performance at Cheltenham. Meanwhile, the Rathbarry Hurdle sees STORM HEART (7/2) as the one to beat, following a strong showing in prior contests. The Fairyhouse Chase reunites last year's top contenders, with FOUND A FIFTY (11/4) aiming for another victory. Also, spotlight is on JOYAU DE THAI in the Handicap Chase for a potential surprise.

Fairyhouse's card on Easter Monday is headlined by the Irish Grand National. Three Grade Two contests will take place before 30 of Ireland's top handicap chasers take to the track before Monday's feature.

Here are my best betting tips for Monday's card at Fairyhouse.

Irish Grand National Festival 2026 - Day 3 Tips

2:40pm Fairyhouse - O'Driscoll's Irish Whiskey Juvenile Hurdle Tips

Proactif, and to some extent North Shore, paid the price for racing too close to the pace in the Triumph Hurdle, and both warrant a second chance. As does HARWA (25/1), who ran no sort of race when 15th in the Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

I fancied Paul Nolan's charge would run well in that handicap, despite the trainer's reservations about faster ground. Sean Flanagan's mount was slowly away, and could never get involved in the contest, trailing home some 26 lengths adrift of Saratoga.

I thought Harwa looked classy when he won here at Fairyhouse in February, and the ground on Monday should be much more suitable. There's a strong chance he could outrun his odds in this Grade Two.

STORM HEART (11/4) should take the world of beating in this Grade Two. Willie Mullins' star has shown class throughout his career, and beat a couple of his main rivals when landing the Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran Park in February.

Willie Mullins' six-year-old then carried 11-10 into the Coral Cup. Danny Mullins' mount was positioned well behind the leaders coming down the hill, but made a telling mistake at the second-last, which put the second-favourite firmly on the back foot.

To his credit, Storm Heart flew up the hill at Cheltenham to finish a clear third behind Jingko Blue. Two-and-a-half miles is definitely Storm Heart's trip, and Paul Townend returns to the saddle.

4:20pm Fairyhouse - Fairyhouse Chase Tips

The first three from last year's renewal of this Grade Two will meet again on Monday. FOUND A FIFTY (11/4) got the better of Saint Sam and Blood Destiny, and there's every chance that Gordon Elliott's star will rubber-stamp that form.

Like last year, Found A Fifty returns to action at Fairyhouse after a dismal effort in the Champion Chase. Elliott's nine-year-old never went a yard at Cheltenham, and was pulled up after another dreadful jump at just the sixth fence.

Good ground, over two miles at Cheltenham would probably by the opposition conditions of what Found A Fifty wants. Elliott's charge has always preferred softer ground, and loves going right-handed. Despite all of his wins this season coming over the minimum distance, I think two-and-a-half miles is Found A Fifty's best trip, and he could hand Elliott a much-needed winner this weekend.

JOYAU DE THAI (6/1) endured a tricky start to life over fences when he returned from an 18-month absence in the autumn. Paul Nolan's charge was well-beaten behind Bossofthebrownies on his chasing debut here in November, and fell at the halfway stage on his second outing at Cork.

Nolan switched Joyeu De Thaix to hurdles after that, and Sean Flangan's mount won a handicap off 112 at Limerick over Christmas, before a fourth-place effort behind The Lovely Man at Gowran Park. Those confidence-building runs did the trick, as Nolan's grey marked his return to chasing with an impressive victory at Leopardstown last month.

Joyeu De Thaix jumped nicely on the whole, and his stamina kicked in after the last to run down hot-favourite Dameauscottlestown. Nolan's seven-year-old has been handed a mark of 125 after that success, and I fancy it could prove rather lenient.
