The card at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday is headlined by the Irish Grand National. This historic handicap was first run at Fairyhouse in 1870, and has been won by legends like Bobbyjo, Desert Orchid and - the greatest of all time - Arkle during its long, illustrious history.

While there is a chance he could be well-handicapped, I'm totally against current favourite Gaillard Du Mesnil. Willie Mullins' novice is yet to win over fences, he's never won over three miles and Mullins' record in this handicap isn't exactly strong, having won it just once with Burrows Saint.
Farclas bypassed a return to Aintree in favour of a run at Fairyhouse, but his inactivity this season has to be regarded as a negative. Run Wild Fred brought down stablemate Death Duty at the Canal Turn at Aintree. Gordon Elliott could run both on Easter Monday, but I'm always hesitant backing runners on the back of heavy falls.
I'm not convinced that Full Time Score has the experience for this sort of challenge and a ten-pound rise for Diol Ker following his win at Naas seems a little harsh. Max Flamingo has been well-beaten on his two previous starts over three miles and I'm not keen on Early Doors' chances off this career-high mark.
2022 Irish Grand National Tip 1 - Champagne Platinum

Despite holding several entries at the Cheltenham Festival, Enda Bolger decided to keep CHAMPAGNE PLATINUM back for the Irish Grand National and he looks a solid bet at 20/1.
Formerly trained by Nicky Henderson, Champagne Platinum needed a couple of runs in Ireland to find his feet. On his third start for Bolger, Mark Walsh's mount ran down Ain't That A Shame to win at Navan and was then only beaten three lengths by Death Duty in the Grand National Trial at Punchestown.
Bolger's grey was backed into favouritism for the Leinster National last time out, but could never get into a rhythm and was beaten 30-lengths back in seventh. I don't mind putting a line through that run and the deluge of rain that's due to hit Fairyhouse over the weekend certainly enhances Champagne Platinum's chances.
2022 Irish Grand National Tip 2 - Lord Lariat
Dermot McLoughlin celebrated the biggest win of his career 12 months ago, when 150/1 shot Freewheelin Dylan made all to scoop Irish Grand National glory. McLoughlin will have been delighted to see his stable star run so well in the Grand National at Aintree last month, and he'll be hoping that LORD LARIAT can follow in Freewheelin Dylan's footsteps.
While he may only be seven, Lord Lariat has been jumping fences since he was a five-year-old. McLoughlin charge won back-to-back handicaps during the winter, scoring over 21-furlongs here at Fairyhouse before making all to win a decent handicap at Punchestown on heavy ground.
Lord Lariat was then pitched in with Full Time Score, Discorama and Smoking Gun in a Rated Chase here at Fairyhouse. Jack Foley's mount found himself a little outpaced that day, and was being bumped along at an early stage. Turning for home, Lord Lariat took aim at leader Discorama, but soon faded as the classier horses came to the fore, eventually crossing the line fifth.
McLoughlin's runner should be much more comfortably back in handicap company. Softer ground isn't an issue and Lord Lariat looks like the type who will relish this testing trip. He's no forlorn hope, despite those current lengthy odds.
Verdict
Champagne Platinum and Lord Lariat are our best each way bets in the 2022 Irish Grand National.
