The track record could be in danger in Friday opener. Favourite Big Evs, who always starts quickly, has been handed a kind low draw in stall four. George Weaver's leading contenders, Crimson Advocate and No Nay Mets will be keen to grab the lead from the two lowest stalls, and Ado McGuinness' Tiger Belle is another who will look to go forward early from stall three.

At the prices, I'm tempted by GIVEMETHEBEATBOYS (12/1), who could be extremely effective over the minimum distance. Jessica Harrington's juvenile was up with the leaders at the five-furlong stage of both the Coventry and the Middle Park Stakes, before fading a little in the closing stages.

Shane Foley's mount will have to break well, as you can't afford to give the leaders too much rope in Breeders' Cup sprints. If Givemethebeatboys handles the bend and has the leaders in his sights, I expect him to hit the line well.

Tamara will be looking to follow in the footsteps of her dam, Beholder, who won the 2012 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies here at Santa Anita, before going on to register ten further top-level successes during a glittering career.

Tamara has clearly inherited some of her mother's ability, based on her two victories thus far. 10/11 is, however, a short price to take considering she's been off the track longer than all of her 12 rivals and she's yet to prove her stamina over a mile.

SCALABLE (25/1) is an interesting outsider to note. Todd Pletcher's filly looked like she needed a mile when fifth on debut and saw out the trip well when second behind Chatalas in the Chandalier Stakes over this course-and-distance. If she's come on again for that outing, she might not be far away at the finish.

The European juvenile form is stronger than the US equivalent, on turf anyway, so it's no surprise to see the betting topped by two raiders. Carla's Way saw out seven furlongs well to win the Rockfel Stakes last time out and she should be just as comfortable over eight furlongs.

PORTA FORTUNA (11/2), on the other hand, has registered her best performances over six furlongs, winning the Albany at Royal Ascot and the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket on her most recent run. Oisin Murphy's mount only finished third in the Moyglare over seven furlongs, but Porta Fortuna caught a tough passage through the race on the rail that day and stayed on well in the closing stages.

On breeding, Donnacha O'Brien's filly should see out a mile and we know how important a turn-of-foot is over any distance on US soil. Porta Fortuna will be my confident selection.

The Breeders' Futurity is by far the best trial for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, throwing up three winners, a second and a third in recent seasons. LOCKED (7/2) got the better of The Wine Steward to win that Group One at Keeneland and I'm finding it hard to look past the market leader here.

Locked endured a wide trip throughout the Futurity, unlike The Wine Steward, who enjoyed a smooth passage along the rail. The two settled down for a fight to the finish turning for home and it was Todd Pletcher's juvenile who outmuscled his rival in the closing stages. Jose Ortiz's mount has landed a much kinder draw in stall six on Friday and I fancy Locked will be too strong for his competition once again.

Ryan Moore has opted to ride RIVER TIBER (5/2) over stablemate Unquestionable and, since the jockey bookings were confirmed, the Aidan O'Brien runners have flip-flopped at the head of the market.

After winning the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, River Tiber suffered a set-back that ruled him out of the Phoenix Stakes. O'Brien's colt has since finished third behind Vandeek twice, keeping on well in both the Prix Morny and the Middle Park Stakes.

Wootton Bassett's progeny often improve when stepped up in distance and, in his pre-Breeders' Cup stable tour, O'Brien seemed confident that River Tiber was now at the peak of his fitness. From a lovely draw down in stall two, Ryan Moore's mount will take plenty of beating.
