Following on from the Betfair Chase last Saturday, British fans look to Newcastle for their fix of Grade One action this weekend. The Fighting Fifth Hurdle has been won by many of the sports top two-mile hurdlers down the years and Epatante will attempt to win this race for a third year in a row on Saturday.

2022 Fighting Fifth Hurdle Entries
Epatante ran out a ready winner of the 2020 Fighting Fifth on her first visit to Newcastle. Nicky Henderson's mare was forced to share this prize with Not So Sleepy 12 months ago, and went on to win her second Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, before following Honeysuckle home in the Champion Hurdle.
Nicky Henderson confirmed on Wednesday that Constitution Hill will also contest Saturday's main event. Last year's runaway Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner had been expected to head to the International Hurdle following his withdrawal at Ascot last weekend. However, Henderson dropped the bombshell that both his star hurdlers would run at Newcastle this weekend, prompting Betfair into cutting Constitution Hill into 1/4 favouritism.
Not So Sleepy returns to Newcastle on the back of a cracking run in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket. Tommy's Oscar drops back to hurdles, after a runner-up finish over fences at Cheltenham last time out. Iain Jardine's ten-year-old, Voix Du Reve is the fifth and final entrant.
2022 Fighting Fifth Hurdle Tips
I can't wait to see Constitution Hill hit the track again. Nicky Henderson's star is the most exciting National Hunt horse in training and I'm fully expecting the favourite to win on Saturday.
Epatante is no pushover. Her CV is enviable and she's a two-time winner of this contest. That being said, Henderson's mare didn't run that well in this race 12 months ago and if she underperforms again, there's a paid place up for grabs behind Constitution Hill.
I'm going to have a small each-way bet on TOMMY'S OSCAR, who'll be fit and raring to go following two runs over fences.
Ann Hamilton's stable star did well to win on his chase debut at Carlisle in October. Tommy's Oscar then didn't seem to enjoy Cheltenham when he took his chance in the Arkle Trial, but a late fall from Glory And Fortune allowed Danny McMenamin's mount to claim a slice of the place money behind the impressive winner, Banbridge.
Tommy's Oscar progressed brilliantly over hurdles last season, winning two handicaps before an easy victory in the Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock. Hamilton's stable star cruised to victory in a novice hurdle here at Newcastle back in 2020 and if he was to follow Constitution Hill home, I don't think it would be a huge shock.
Verdict
Constitution Hill isn't a betting proposition and Epatante is too short for an each-way bet. Tommy's Oscar, on the other hand, is a classy operator on his day and 28/1 is a tempting each-way price.
