The first Group One for older horses staged during the British flat season is the historic Lockinge Stakes. This one-mile event has been won by legendary names since it's creation in the 1950s, including the likes of Brigadier Gerard, Selkirk and Frankel.

2025 Lockinge Stakes Runners
Heading the market for this lucrative Group One is Rosallion. Richard Hannon's star finished second in the 2000 Guineas last season, before going on to land the Irish 1000 Guineas and the St James's Palace Stakes on his final three-year-old starts.
Dancing Gemini brings the best seasonal form into this year's Lockinge, having won the Doncaster Stakes and the bet365 Mile at Sandown. Notable Speech got the better of Rosallion in last year's 2000 Guineas and will make his reappearance at Newbury.
Tamfana wasn't beaten far behind Dancing Gemini on her reappearance and Rossa Ryan has picked up the ride on David Menuisier's filly. Oisin Murphy, who usually rides Tamfana, will partner with Lead Artist. Kieran Shoemark takes the ride on Fallen Angel for Karl Burke and Wathnan Racing. William Knight's six-year-old, Checkandchallenge completes the field.
2025 Lockinge Stakes Tips
Richard Hannon's horses are going well at the moment and he's been pretty bullish about Rosallion's chances. Notable Speech beat the market leader when the two met in last year's Guineas and didn't give his true running when that form was reversed at Royal Ascot.
The two Classic winners will be making their seasonal reappearance. Rosallion has a lengthier absence to overcome, having not run in 11 months. Notable Speech has also copped a potentially tricky draw out wide in stall nine. Meanwhile, Dancing Gemini landed the worst draw down in stall one and Ryan Moore might have to do some early work to latch onto the only likely front-runner in the field, Fallen Angel, who's been drawn centrally in stall five.
TAMFANA (11/2) has been drawn perfectly on the shoulder of Fallen Angel, and David Menuisier will be hoping for a red-hot early gallop to emphasise his filly's stamina.
Having gone close in the Prix de Diane, Tamfana dropped back down to a mile after running fourth in the Grand Prix de Paris. Menuisier's stable star thrashed some decent fillies to win the Atalanta Stakes, before claiming her first Group One victory with a super-impressive performance in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.
That top-level victory meant Tamfana had to give the race-fit Dancing Gemini weight when they met in the bet365 Mile. Menuisier's filly tracked the favourite throughout and, although Dancing Gemini proved too quick on the day, he never managed to shake off Tamfana, who finished close behind in second.
Dancing Gemini will be giving Tamfana three pounds on Saturday, so there's a five-pound swing in the weights between the two. Rossa Ryan's mount seemed to enjoy quicker ground when she raced on decent surfaces last term and proved she had more than enough natural speed for this eight-furlong distance in 2024.

Verdict
Tamfana proved herself at the highest level when she scorched to Sun Chariot glory last season. David Menuisier's filly ran well on her reappearance at Sandown and won't need to improve too much on that to get involved in this year's Lockinge.
