2025 Sun Chariot Stakes Runners
Two recent Group One winners are locked in a battle for favouritism ahead of Saturday's main event. Cinderella's Dream landed the Falmouth Stakes for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin in July, before running fourth in the ten-furlong Prix Jean Romanet. Fallen Angel has added to her Group One haul twice in the past two months, winning the Prix Rothschild and the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.
Lady Of Spain maintained her unbeaten record in the Atalanta Stakes at Sandown. Andrew Balding's three-year-old Blue Bolt, second to Lady Of Spain at Sandown, also steps up to Group One company for the first time.
Neither of Aidan O'Brien's fillies features in the final field, but Donnacha O'Brien is represented by Matron Stakes third Atsila. Cathedral ran fourth in that contest at Leopardstown on her first start for Kevin Philippart De Foy. Her former handler, Ralph Beckett runs Celebration Mile runner-up, Saqqara Sands.
Harry Davies and Hugo Palmer team up with Cheshire Dancer. Princess Elizabeth Stakes winner Spiritual is the likely pace-angle in the contest. Heavy-ground-loving Sparks Fly is the 100/1 market backmarker, with conditions set to come up fairly quick.
2025 Sun Chariot Stakes Tips
Cinderella's Dream and Fallen Angel are incredibly hard to split at the head of the betting, so I'm going to have a punt on one at a much bigger price. SAQQARA SANDS (33/1) has progressed through the grades nicely over the summer, and could be well-placed to challenge for the places.
Ralph Beckett's filly went close on her reappearance at Epsom, before running out an easy winner of the Eternal Stakes at Carlisle. Saqqara Sands then shared the Oak Tree Stakes with stablemate Tabiti at Glorious Goodwood, and went close on her first crack at eight furlongs in the Celebration Mile at that same venue.
Rossa Ryan's mount tracked the pace throughout, hitting the front with two furlongs to travel. Saqqara Sands looked to be a sitting duck for Jonquil to pass, but the favourite had to work extremely hard to reel in Beckett's filly, who only succumbed in the strides before the line.
That was an excellent effort behind a very talented colt, and Ryan's mount has winning form here on the Rowley Mile. Slightly softer ground and a better draw that stall one would be ideal, but I don't see why Saqqara Sands can't get involved in the finish, should she continue her recent progression.
