British Champions Day Results
Champions Day 2024 kicked off with an awards ceremony, where Oisin Murphy was crowned Champion Jockey for a fourth time. Aidan O'Brien claimed top trainer honours yet again, meaning that both the British Champion Flat Trainer and Jumps Trainer were both based in Ireland.
Kyprios opened the card with another brilliant victory in the Long Distance Cup, winning back the title he lost 12 months ago. James Fanshawe then watched Kind Of Blue holds off Swingalong and Flora Of Bermuda to end the season as the Champion Sprinter.
Performance of the day went to Kalpana, who blitzed her rivals in the Champion Fillies' And Mares' Stakes. Charyn ended a dominant 2024 campaign by winning the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, and Roger Varian's star will have one final run in Japan before heading off to stud.
All eyes were on Calandagan and Economics ahead of the Champion Stakes, but it was Owen Burrow's Anmaat who stole the show, seeing off the French favourite to return an SP of 40/1. Christophe Soumillon then produced a masterful ride in the card-closing Balmoral handicap, guiding Carrytheone to victory for trainer, Michael Bell.
