The first Grade One race for two-mile chasers takes place at Sandown on Saturday, where the Tingle Creek Chase will be played out in front of a capacity crowd. Many of jump racing's finest two milers have won this great race, and the winner often goes on to run in the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
Here's our free guide to the 2024 Tingle Creek, including our best betting tips.

2024 Tingle Creek Entries
Jonbon will return to Sandown to try and defend his Tingle Creek crown. Nicky Henderson's star wasn't at his best when winning on his reappearance at Cheltenham, but returning to Sandown should bring about improvement, given that he's four-from-four in Grade Ones at this venue.
Boothill and Edwardstone kept on gamely to push Jonbon in the Shloer Chase. Edwardstone placed second to the favourite in this race 12 months ago, having won the Tingle Creek impressively in 2022. Boothill will also renew his rivalry with Jonbon on Saturday.
Sadly, Found A Fifty will not be making the trip to Sandown. Instead, Henry De Bromhead's Quilixios will spearhead the Irish challenge, following his defeat of Marine Nationale at Naas. Joseph O'Brien's Solness, only beaten a neck by Found A Fifty at Navan last time out, has also been confirmed.
JPR One steps back into Grade One company, having run out a ready winner of the Haldon Gold Cup on his reappearance. Nigel Twiston-Davies will be represented by Master Chewy, who finished second in a Grade One as a novice chaser, and ran well under 12-00 on his reappearance at Ascot.
Dan Skelton runs Unexpected Party, a well-beaten fourth in the Shloer Chase, and this year's Grand Annual winner props up the betting.
2024 Tingle Creek Chase Tips
I'm always keen to take Jonbon on at Cheltenham, as I don't think he's comfortable around that track. Sandown, however, is a different kettle of fish. Nicky Henderson's star produced his breakthrough performance when winning the Henry VIII Novices' Chase in 2022. Jonbon has been to Sandown three times since then, winning three Grade Ones and recording RPRs in the 170s on all three occasions.
For all that Quilixios looked good when dispatching of Marine Nationale at Naas, his career-best RPR over fences is 155 and he is prone to throw in the odd stinker. Edwardstone and Boothill couldn't reel in an undercooked Jonbon at Cheltenham and both have already been beaten by the favourite around Sandown. Solness is at his best on summer ground, and I can't see Unexpected Party causing an upset.
I was very impressed with JPR One's victory in the Haldon Gold Cup. Joe Tizzard's star seems to be at his best on nicer ground, which could be a big problem if the forecast is correct. JPR One finished third in the Henry VIII here 12 months ago, where the heavy ground seemed to blunt his dynamic jumping.
As an each-way alternative to Jonbon, I'm going to side with MASTER CHEWY (20/1) for the in-form Nigel Twiston-Davies' team. An impressive winner of the Wayward Lad as a novice, Master Chewy bounced back from an unfortunate fall in the Arkle by pushing Found A Fifty within a head on his final novice outing at Aintree.
Twiston-Davies' seven-year-old ran a cracker on his reappearance in a handicap at Ascot, finishing a close fourth behind Martator, who has bolted in again since. Despite most of his best form coming on good ground, I was interested to hear Willie Twiston-Davies say that soft ground is what Master Chewy wants. If that is the case, then Harry Cobden's mount is certainly overpriced at 20/1.
