Ascot stages its biggest jumps card of the season on Saturday afternoon. The main event on the afternoon is the Ascot Chase, a two-and-a-half mile Grade One that's been won by greats like One Man, Kauto Star, Monet's Garden and Cue Card.

2025 Ascot Chase Runners

Pic D'Orhy got the better of L'Homme Presse to win this Grade One last season, in what was a disappointing turn-out for the contest. Paul Nicholls' star returns to Ascot, having won the 1965 Chase on his sole start this term. L'Homme Presse heads the betting this time around, having finished third on his reappearance in the King George before a victory in the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham.

Corbetts Cross will continue his preparation for the Cheltenham Gold Cup with an outing over 2m5f at Ascot on Saturday. Ireland could also be represented by Willie Mullins' Blue Lord, who steps up in trip after two poor performances over two miles earlier in the season.

Gary & Josh Moore pulled Le Patron out of the Denman Chase last weekend, presumably to target this Grade One. Dan Skelton's ten-year-old, Flegmatik completes the line-up.

2025 Ascot Chase Tips

In my guide to the 2025 Cheltenham Gold Cup that went live this week, I've put Corbetts Cross up as my each-way selection. Emmet Mullins' star was brilliant in the National Hunt Chase last term and the brutal test of stamina that the Gold Cup usually turns into should suit him perfectly.

Mark Walsh travels over to take the ride on Saturday, presumably to get a feeler before the big day in March. Punters have backed Corbetts Cross into joint favouritism too. Yet, I can't see the conditions of this contest suiting Emmet's raider, who was taken off his feet by the speed of the King George and the ground will be similar on Saturday to what he faced at Kempton.

Despite the dismal season that Paul Nicholls is currently enduring, PIC D'ORHY (2/1) has every chance of claiming back-to-back wins.

Harry Cobden poached a five-length lead over L'Homme Presse when the starter dropped his flag 12 months ago and maintained that advantage throughout. L'Homme Presse attempted to make inroads at various stages, but kept jumping out to his left. Pic D'Orhy, in contrast, jumped straight and true throughout, sauntering over the line without Cobden ever reaching for the stick.

Nicholls' ten-year-old returns to Ascot fresh, having been off the track since his second successive victory in the 1965 Chase. Pic D'Orhy loves Ascot and the only rain in the forecast is due to fall after midday on Saturday, so it's unlikely to alter the going description. 2/1 could turn out to be a nice price.
