Following his superb win at Haydock, A Plus Tard was narrowly beaten by Galvin in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown. Henry De Bromhead's star then produced a stunning performance at the Cheltenham Festival, sprinting clear after the last to win the Gold Cup by 15 lengths and Betfair list A Plus Tard as their 2/5 favourite to make a winning return on Saturday.
The defending champion will have as few as four rivals to contend with on Saturday. Heading the chasing pack is Dan Skelton's Protektorat, who bolted up in last year's Many Clouds Chase before finishing third behind A Plus Tard in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Three-time Betfair Chase winner, Bristol De Mai could make his sixth appearance in this Grade One at the ripe-old age of 11. Eldorado Allen will step back up to the highest level after an impressive run behind Bravemansgame in the Charlie Hall Chase. The fifth and final entrant is Paul Nicholls' Frodon, who returned with an impressive win at Wincanton in the Bader Beers Trophy.
