A huge upset in the Champion Stakes, as ANMAAT wins at 40/1!

Calandagan missed the break, but looked to have got the perfect split on the rail, until Jim Crowley powered into contention aboard Anmaat and pushed the favourite aside in the closing stages!

Silvestre De Sousa's mount travelled like the best horse and picked up when challenged by Facteur Cheval late on. Tamfana came through for third late on, but the winner was much the best!

Despite drifting on the day, KALPANA runs out a ready winner on her first Group One start.

It was a messy race, where the early pace was steady and many couldn't cope. But not Kalpana, she's a real star!

James Fanshawe's star tanked into the race and held firm in the closing stages to win his first Group One. Swingalong, again, runs a mighty race back in second. Flora Of Bermuda and Beauvatier complete the places, as the first four pull clear of the field.

12:00pm - Going Update

The rain we received overnight and this morning has dried up, thankfully, and the ground is beginning to dry out a touch. The going on both courses at Ascot remains soft and going stick readings suggest that the straight course is marginally quicker than the inner flat track.

11:00pm - Calandagone!

We have a new favourite for this afternoon's Champion Stakes, as CALANDAGAN has been backed into as short as 5/4 with some firms.

Economics has been weak in the betting for 24 hours, drifting from 13/8 right out to 5/2 and 11/4. William Haggas' star drifted markedly before winning the Irish Champion Stakes, so if you've backed Economics, all hope is not lost!
