The 2023 Champions Sprint anticipates a thrilling race with Frankie Dettori hoping to recreate last year's victory with Kinross. Swingalong and Sense Of Duty shine as the key contenders against the market leaders. Having shown immense promise in previous seasons, both fillies are expected to explore their potential on the grand stage at Ascot.

The first of four Group One races to take place on British Champions Day is the Champions Sprint. Frankie Dettori rode Kinross to victory in this race 12 months ago and the legendary Italian will be hoping for a similar showing from the favourite, on what will be Dettori's final Champions Day at Ascot.

Here's our free guide to the 2023 Champions Sprint, including our best betting tips.

2023 Champions Sprint Ante-Post Tips - Swingalong

Kinross clearly has an outstanding chance of retaining his crown and I wouldn't put anyone off the mud-loving Vadream, despite her price shrinking significantly over the past week. That being said, I'm going to back two against the market leaders, starting with my ante-post selection, SWINGALONG (20/1).

Having started the season running over seven furlongs and a mile, Karl Burke's filly has relished the return to six furlongs since Royal Ascot. Swingalong finished a highly creditable third in the Commonwealth Cup, before making all to score in the Summer Stakes at York in July.

After a summer break, Swingalong returned to action with a fine fourth in the Sprint Cup, where she ran a solo effort down the near rail for the entirety of the contest. Burke's filly saw out seven furlongs on very soft ground at Newbury in the Nell Gwyn and produced a super effort on a completely different surface here at Ascot in the Commonwealth Cup. She still represents value.

2023 Champions Sprint Tips - Sense Of Duty

As does SENSE OF DUTY (20/1), who produced one of the best sprinting performances of last season in the Chipchase Stakes. William Haggas' filly flew home from the rear of the field to thrash the talented Annaf by almost five lengths, after which she jumped to the head of the ante-post betting for the Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Injury struck soon after that Newcastle success and Sense Of Duty wasn't seen again until the World Trophy Stakes at Newbury last month. William Haggas' filly was very weak in the betting beforehand and started slowly, pulling hard for the first two furlongs of that five-furlong event. Marquand's mount got outpaced when Thunderbear and Nymphadora kicked for home, but I was pleased to see Sense Of Duty pick up again and hit the line well to win the race for third place.

That run should have put Haggas' four-year-old just right for Champions Day, where she's sure to relish the return to six furlongs. Cut in the ground won't bother this classy filly and if she's back to anything close to what we saw at Newcastle last season, Sense Of Duty could mount a serious challenge.
